A PRS, A Hamer, and now a JP...

After you've had some break-in time with the JP, you should report back with how you like it compared to the others :)

I've had a bit of time to compare the JP6, PRS CE22, and Hamer.

First of all, it's not really fair to include the Hamer. That is one of the models made in China (not that this is necessarily bad) and it's been somewhat of an experimental guitar. I installed SD JB and Jazz PU's, replaced all of the electronics with higher quality parts and wired with 1 volume, 1 tone, a 3-way for bridge/both/neck and another 3-way for outside series, humbucker, inside series splitting. I like the tone I'm getting but I haven't been able to get the bridge and neck adjusted the way I like. I tune this guitar in D-standard and have been using my regular string gauge, 10 - 46, but just today ordered some 11's to try on it. It's my "Motley Crue" guitar but I wish I had a tremolo equiped guitar that I could delegate to D standard.

Anyway, last night I was going back and forth between the PRS and the JP6. The PRS has the wide/fat neck and it's obviously much thicker and quite noticeable while switching back and forth. The JP6 has the thinnest neck of any guitar I've owned. For the next comment... keep in mind that I bought (started paying the loan for actually :)) the PRS when I was 16 and I've had 12 years to learn how to squeeze my desired tone out of it..... I like the PRS high gain tones better (this model has the Dragon pickups), but I don't feel like I'm doing the JP6 any justice yet based on what I've heard live and recorded from this guitar. Plus, all of my gear is tweaked for the PRS since that has been my main axe for so long. Long story short, my PRS is like an extra limb and I'm looking forward to the same feeling with the JP6. Oh, and I'm completely smitten over the Roadking II channel 1 clean setting, some chorus from my G-Major, and the JP6 Piezo. Dare I say it's an "emotional" experience???
