Help - Painting a pickguard

[Just double posting this for those of you who don't check the guitar forum, but might be able to help.]

I'm pretty good with a spray-can and designing/cutting stencils, so I thought I'd go ahead and do some hot rod flames on my Sub 1's pickguard. I've painted guitars before with varying results, but I've never tried to paint the hardware or plastic parts.

Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone around here has tried to paint a detailed image on a pickguard before and what was the result. Actually any tips on painting the pickguard (so that it will actually last) would be greatly appreciated!!

I believe it's Krylon that makes a spray paint specifically for plastics.... I used it on a Fender pickguard once with great results.

It's been a long time since I did anything like this so can't help much - when I was into VW Bugs I used to use a lot of Fibreglass panels. These I sprayed with an etching primer first which would not scrape off. It may be worth you looking at some of the current paint products.
Shoot I know I'm dizzy but what am I doing over here? I must be in the wrong house.

The Krylon paint looks like a very good option. I'll test it on a junked back panel first or something to be sure it sticks.

The etching primer sounds quite interesting... I'll look into that.
