I find the vintage trem quite tight on my Silo special (as compared to the floating trem on my JP6).

I would like some advice as to the better of the two solutions I am considering:

1) unscrewing the trem claw screws to reduce the tension (would I need to unscrew them too much?), or

2) going to 2 springs in a \ / setup like the Petrucci and then adjusting (screwing in) the claw to get to a lesser amount of tension.

I'm not looking to set the trem up to float, I just want to get it to be more flexible and still have enough tension to return properly and bring the strings back in tune.

Your advice is appreciated.

it really depends on the string gauge, i find with 10's your better off with 3 springs which means that you shoud unscrw the claws a bit until your liking, but 3 springs will sound better than 2, at least it does on my silo special -
