You told me you have an Avalon U5 DI. I found one here in London UK at an unbelievable offer and I'm considering buying it. The thing is if i buy it then I won't have much money left to buy a SVP-PRO preamp or a BBE BMAX. Do you think is worth it? I know it is great but you know.......

sorry for the late rply, I just saw it. Is the Avalon worth it, well, I really do love a nice solid clean tone and it gives that. I've also used it for a couple of recording projects in which the engineers/producers have not shut-up about how great the sound of my SR5 and Avalon is.And thirdly, my buddy and I are setting up a project studio and so when I'm not gigging with it, it's working away in the studio. But I would have to say if you're a plug-it-in and play it type of player, you will love the Avalon!! it truly is a great piece of gear, most everything else I've run through sounds like it's got a blanket over it..... have i said that I really love my U5?:D but if it is a steal of a deal then if you don't like it I'm sure you could sell it for more than you bought it.

Thanks for the reply!Well it is a real steal of a deal!I think I'm going to proceed with the purchase!
I used to have a vt737sp channel strip which was UNBELIEVABLE so I really want to have something Avalon in my gear. These things are diamonds!

Absolutely diamonds!:D We've been renting a 737 for a few months now and it makes anything sound great. It definitely has it's own sonic signature but it's a nice one.I would like to get more of their solid state stuff though, the sound of the latest Steely Dan CD is insane and they used a custom board built by Avalon with M5 pre's and their solid state eq per strip on a 48 channel board!!!!! Let me know how it turns out for you. I just played this morning in church and I've been away for a while doing some gigs and had to use the amps provided(which were great) but boy did I miss my U5.

cheers!

and good luck in Portugal!! watch out for Greece :p
