Hi folks

I recently bought what turns out to be a 2002 hardtail AL sss. The body, the neck in absolute mint shape. I could not be happier. More than makes up for lack of compensated nut...

When I took it off the wall at the store, the guitar’s neck and middle pick ups were flush to the body. The bridge PU was significantly higher than that.

I raised the two flush PUs a bit, and will keep on experimenting, but I was wondering what the factory spec height might be.

I might not have the ear training to notice any magnet interference if I raise them too high.

If it makes any difference, I am using D'Addario NYXL 10-46 strings, with medium to medium high action.

I have a D’Addatio action gauge measure I can use.

Thanks for any info.

Cheers!

Google 'strat pickup height', read a few of the results to get you in the ballpark... then use your ears to fine-tune.
It's easy enough to re-adjust over the next few weeks / months until you're happy!

Factory spec is what i call the "4, 5, 6 setup"... which keeps it easy to remember...

Measuring from bottom of the OPEN low E string strings to top of the pickup pole piece...

4/32" for the bridge pickup
5/32" for the middle pickup
6/32" for the neck pickup.

Adjust slightly closer on the high E side. But this is of course a factory setup as much for consistency as it is for anything else. As long as you have no weird tuning or intonation issues from pickups being too high, feel free to have the pickups where ever you ear like to hear them.
