Ya, so I just bought a music man sub1 and I don't know how to use the locking tuners to their full potential or change the action the safest and best way. Any help would be appreciated. :)

Actually the thread Norrin posted works for the Schaller locking tuners that are on all the other EBMM guitars with locking tuners. The Sub 1, if I'm remembering correctly, has Gotoh Magnum self-locking tuners, which work differently from the Schallers. I found these instructions on the Tom Anderson site under his FAQs:

Gotoh Locking Tuners

Removing Old Strings

1. Pull string back from tuning gear.
2. Turn tuner clockwise until string automatically releases.
3. Cut string in half and pull out of body.

Installing new strings

1. Pull string tight through bridge hole
2. Pull string through tuner hole leaving no slack in the string.
3. Turn tuner counter-clockwise, tuner will automatically pinch and tighten string. (We recommend using a string winder)
4. Tighten to pitch.
5. Cut string ends as close as possible to tuner.

These instructions should also be on Gotoh's site, but all foriegn sites are blocked to me here. I've had this type of tuner in a Grover tuner and a Kluson-type tuner, and they work well

The SUB 1 tuners lock from above. Using a dime (10 cents) unlock the tuner like a normal screw and lock the opposite way. To change the strings, thread the string through, bend 90 degrees away from the center, tighten, cut, tune, stretch, tune...and WAIL!

Raz - I take it these are the older verison of the Gotoh Magnums with the top lock instead of the self-locking version? I've messed around a little with the SUB 1s at my local EBMM dealer and remember the tuners being Gotohs, but just assumed they were the self-locking variety. Sorry Mr. Weed

No probs...but I think the tuners are generic (not Gotoh). However they work great!
