1ST CONTACT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!! Ok at your own risk see if you can get a hold of a toothbrush with soft (SOFT Nylon) bristles like an auto detailing burst, or even a good micro-fiber towel again automobile detailing, you'll might be surprised by the results, As far as protection I read on another forum about using clear nail polish. ymmv but I'd contact customer service before you mess up anything and come looking for me. Good luck!

Simple question, do you wipe down your guitar really good after playing? This is probably one of the most overlooked and forgetable things a player can do, but a few shows with heavy sweating all over the guitar and then just puting it back in the case is going to cause a problem. As far as the slight rust buildup that has already started you should be able to get it just aout back to new condition. But contact CS and they will advise you, and remember in the future to keep a clean dry cloth on hand, and wipe your guitar down good when finished.

+1 on the dry cloth.
Microfiber cloth will work really well immediatly after the gig (before you put it back in the case)!

But don't forget to use wonder wipe instrument polish when you get back home.
You can use them all over the guitar except for the neck. Works really well even on the hardware. I always do a complete cleaning session the day after the gig and everybody seeing my guitars goes like "man, do you play them at all?".
