No signature on the headstock, toggle on the horn...it would appear to me that this is an Axis EX.

That's where I'm putting my money...

Seen this one (or at least a deadringer) appear on Ebay a few times. Definately an Axis EX from Japan (a previous seller had a real EVH and this one too and was up front about it's origins).

Post the serial number and you'll Derek or Jon should be able to tell you if it's in their database. If it is, it's one of the rare "end of run" EVHs that left the factory without the headstock decalllll - these generally sell for less than a conventional EVH with signature headstock. If not, it's an Axis EX, assembled in Japan from US parts. Is the neck finished with a matt finish or just wood and wax?

It means is there any kind of gloss or finish or varnish on the neck of the guitar.

Eddie Van Halen likes his necks unfinished. He is of the belief that the oil from your finger tips should be the finish on the neck.
Therefore, the EVH EBMM had unfinished necks. So if there's a finish on the neck, then it's not the real thing!!
