First post...

Howdy all,

Sorry to kind of back up a ways in the discussion, but I just realized there was a message board here and decided to get into yet another time sucking activity.

As far as to how tall SM is vs. JS, I stood on level ground with SM when I met him at a little club in Boston, and I'm 5'9" - 5'10" and I thought we were roughly the same height. I've never met or seen JS live unfortunately, so I have no idea how tall he is.

To attest to how nice a guy SM is, I had written a letter to his fanmail address because I was hoping there may be some way I could get him to sign the EBMMSMSM i own and he actually took the time to reply to me. Unfortunately there was no way to get the guitar there since there's no way they're gonna let me take a guitar case into a club when nowadays too large a purse on a lady will keep her from being able to get into a concert and we also had to take public transportation to the show. I couldn't take the chance of not being able to get in.

What I did was leave My EBMMSM in the car. After the show I stepped out and grabed it and brought it back in. Steve was signing autographs anyway. So I just got in line. Hopefully you can get a ride next time.

I actually planned to do that.

Appreciate the tip! I would have probably tried to do the same thing, but with the club being in a pretty crowded part of Boston and me driving an F150 Supercab 4x4 at the time, the hotel clerk suggested we don't even try to find parking near the venue.

I actually went and saw Steve play with Deep Purple at an outdoor venue closer to home and had the guitar in the truck, but the rule at that place was that you could not leave and come back in..... sheesh. Oh well, maybe one of these days. Hopefully he'll be touring for many more years. I realize DP is his money gig, but I really wish he had the time to do more Dregs/SMB shows. I've been a fan for well over 20 years. Wonder what it's like to have to go full circle and play "Smoke On The Water" again. When I first picked up a guitar that was THE song everyone learned first ;)

I didn't walk away empty handed though. I was wearing a "Bring 'em Back Alive" T shirt from the early 90's that both Dave LaRue and Steve signed. I also got Steve to sign his book "Open Ears" and the cover of the second SMB album, "Stand Up" which never got released to CD until Steve bought the rights and released it himself. Bought a copy at the show :) Dave LaRue seemed like a really nice, down to earth guy as well. Now if he'd only get rid of the "chick" hairdo, LOL.

Hope SM doesn't go running next time he sees me thinking that I'm stalking him or something, Hehe.
