I just couldn't resist after seeing this bass and the price seems right @ 799.99 . description says it has belt rash but I can't see no damage in the pics and some worn finish on the neck is fine with me. anyway I wanted a maple neck and I like that color so it will be a good match for my Natural SR with a rosewood board. the link below will show you the bass I just got and so far so good with ebay so we'll see if that stands with me.

I was gonna get a vintage P-bass as a back-up which I need cause I break alot of strings (E & A's) and need a 2nd bass when playing live sometimes. so I thought about it and asked alot of opinions and decided to just get another EB if the right one comes along. My buddy is a full time Guitar tech and also a EB dealer (guitar Doctor - whitman, Ma.) so I'll have him look it over and set it up for me.

and yeah that birdseye neck was a big factor in me getting this bass and defenitely what I wanted with the maple fretboard idea. i'm sure its a transparent finish, it has to be in "wine" right? so I'm hoping it has some nice grain showing through also..

(had to edit cause I never finished this in time)

Looks like the nut was replaced ?
Could be wrong but never saw a black one on a SR4 before.

Nice bass, good luck.

okay I need help here.... I got the bass and its a sweet bass (with the most deadest strings you ever heard) but someone put a "Basslines" Pick-up in it and disconnected the 3-band EQ????? so how good is a Basslines pick-up and can it be used with the EQ (this SR still has the EQ electronics) or should I get a MM Pick-up and toss the Basslines..

I don't want this bass to sound too much different from my other SR4 so if I needed the MM pick-up how much do they cost--does anyone have a used one or trade for the BL?

My buddy who is a MM dealer and guitar tech says he has seen this before where they disconnected the MM EQ and just ran the bass flat and EQ'd using footswitches. he also say he can't get to the bass for a couple weeks because he has custom guitars he made that need to get down for the customers so I might just get the bass and put some new strings on and try it saturday at practice but im scared I'll like the Basslines better and that would mess me up and make me want to replace the pick-ups in my other bass---I do run my basses with all three EQ knobs up all the way anyway and adjust at my amp.

other than that the bass is sweet and has the lowest buzz free action I've ever seen.. thanks Taj

The seller wasn't particularly honest with you.

The basslines pickup will work fine with the preamp. Basslines are made by Seymour Duncan who are one of the top aftermarket pickup manufacturers around.

If you're concerned about restoring the bass to its original state you should keep an eye out for an original MM pickup on ebay. They pop up from time to time.

While the Basslines pickup may sound fine (I've got one in a Warmoth), it ain't a Stingray, and it sounds like you thought you bought a Stingray, not a Stingray with a Seymour Duncan pickup. I'd return it. I paid $600 for a used SR4 w/a HSC (not EB). Mine was in Excellent shape. Assuming you're in the US, I'd return it and look for another deal.

Yep. He should have told you that the pick up is not a stock one and that there was some "work" to do to have the EQ wired.

On the other hand, if all the rest is fine, if the EQ is working well, keep it ; it's nice (birseye neck and head are really cool, so as the color). You'll enjoy bringing it back to life.

yeah I'm keeping it.. this isn't a big deal by any means--> the MM EQ system is still there which is a good thing..

I guess the basslines can be wired to the EQ system so I don't understand why they did that in the first place. ( I just printed a color copy of the wiring scematic for this pick-up to a SR and it looks pretty simple.

yeah I wanted a bass like this with all the birdseye and trans body color and after feeling the action this is defenitely going to be a joy to play so it has to stay here.

worse comes to worse I'll buy a MM pickup from ernie ball..
