Has anyone ever heard of one of these before? bmenary, what do you think? I think it looks really cool, and the price is great, but I didn't know that Ernie Ball Music Man had a licensed Japanese manufacturer for the Japan market.

eBay Auction for EB/MM Japan Axis EX

If it plays and sounds as good as it looks, it's a cheap ticket into EVH-dom :D

Jimi:

I was actually conisdering getting one of those last year when I began my guitar quest. I ended up with 2 of the real deals, and I couldn't be happier. :)

Here's the scoop from one of the random links below:

"AXIS-EX is a made-in-Japan version of the AXIS. It has a book-matched or one-piece quilt top but uses lower quality wood than the USA AXIS and the EVH signatured, for example, its neck and finger board are taken from the different pieces of wood; and is thus sold for about 1,200 US$ (1US$ = 130JPY). But the US AXIS is also not so expensive in Japan recently. Different from the US AXIS, EX's pickup selector is placed beside the front pickup like the EVH signatured. No AXIS logo and EVH's signature on the headstock. No body contour. Recently, AXIS-EXS (probably means EX solid-colored) that does not have a maple top is also available in Japan."
