In particular, the Neo212 cab. Does it work well with the 5 stringers as a stand alone cab. The Bass Place up in Phoenix has one and I was going to go check it out. However, I'd like some opinions as to the worthwhileness in driving 3hrs to go check it out.

I have a GK Neo 212 and a Neo 115. I played the 212 for 6 months before I got the 115 with a Bongo 5 and StingRay 5. The Neo 212 didnt have any problems with the low B. Sounds clean and defined, with nice clear bottom end.

The only reason I got the 115, was to push a 4 ohm load from my 1001RB-II.

I think the Neo 212 is worth a look.

But I am biased. ;)

Now, how did I know I'd be getting your $0.02? ... :D

Actually Travis, you got me looking at the GK stuff. So tell GK you're earning your keep.

Also considering getting the 1001RBII to go with it but also thinking about the Ampeg SVT3PRO. Just testing the waters for now. Gotta go listen to stuff first. Then get out of this apartment so I can crank it and not have to deal with the neighbors.

If the GK cab is as good as the 2x12 Hartke cab I use, then I'd say you should check it out. 12's have a wonderful mix of punch and low end.

Glad I got your wheels turnin about the GK stuff. The only reason I shamelessly promote is because Ive tried a lot of gear and I truly believe in the GK stuff. They dont pay me.

I also think GK excels specifically with EBMM basses.

And to be honest the SVT-3 Pro is a great head. I was about one GC trip away from buying one before I discovered my very first GK rig. A 400RB 2x10 combo and 4x10RBH.

Why are you considering the Neos? If you need any help on regards to the rest of the cabinet line Ill be glad to help. The Neos are great, but depending on the tone youre seeking you may benefit more from the RBH or SBX cabs.

Long story short, was looking at 4x10's. Mainly Ampeg. The weight of some of these suckers made me rethink what I was considering. So I started looking at 2x12's. The Aguilars came up. There aren't any dealers listed for Tucson and The Bass Place doesn't have any in stock. So I started perusing reviews to see if they'd be worth ordering sound unheard. Big complaint I saw over and over again was that they were too quiet. Then I followed your link one day to check out the GK's 'cuz I saw your post when you got your current rig together. The Neo's piqued my interest cus of the weight and I like the idea of 2x12s. Plenty of surface area yet only 2 magnet structures to keep the weight down. Freddy-G sums up what I'm expecting to get from some 12's.

Should I keep the GK 4x10s in mind? If so, which one, the SBX or the RBH

Really won't know until I get up to Phoenix to check some stuff out. Would like to raise the odds that I won't come home empty handed tho'.

As to that lack o' pay bit, I'll call GK and work out a finders fee for ya'. ;)

Yep, my Neo212 is great. Handles a lo-B well and is noticably lighter than others cab's. Also, most likely due to it's tuning, it is nice and depp but has some nice mid bark to cut through on stages pretty well.
Definitely worth the money.

Thanks pete and travis. Will look into them when I recover from today's spending spree.

Personally, I love my GK700RBII.

I was going to make it full GK package, but after I heard the SWR Goliath III it was all over. Can't say enough good things about that cab, except for the price tag. Oh, well. I'm currently looking into adding a Son Of Bertha to the mix.

Tom,

You may want to keep the GK 4x10s in mind. The 410RBH and 410SBX are great sounding cabs, but it a little on the heavy side. The SBX is a little less expensive than the RBH. If lightweight is a must Id go with the Neo 212.

Heres a quick comparision:

Neo 212: smooth on the bottom and top, with very present, full mids. lightweight and very loud for its size. 8 ohms, 600watts

410RBH: a more agressive sounding ported cab. quick and clean across the freq spectrum, with an edge thats great for rock. 4 or 8 ohms, 800 watts

410SBX: a warmer sounding sealed cab. a little less agressive, but just as even across the freq spectrum, 8 ohms, 400 watts

Just a side note, while I don't have GK gear, I do play an SWR Silverado Special which has 2x12s(non-neo speakers). IT puts out plenty of sound and handles the low B very well. The 2x12 config is pretty versitle. I like it much butter that the 2x10 top that I used to have. If I need anything extra I stack it on a Triad (15,10,T) and the earth rumbles.

I just tried a Neo 2x12 and it rocksas far as the B string is concerned (I think I like the RBH cabs better overall though). The only thing I liked better was SWR's 4x12 (can't wait to try a NEO 4x12).

Like anything else though, it is a matter of taste. There are days I love the 2x12's and others I wish I could chuck it all and get an old Peavey 2x18  .
