I have TI Powerbass strings on my 5 string Bongo, and it only has a .119 low B and I don't have a lot of problem with buzz.

Hey Monkeee - I'm going to try the TI Powerbass strings you recommend on my Bongo 5. My EB Reg. Slinkies low B is .130 and I did have to raise the action pretty high on the low B to stop buzz. Thanx for the tip - I'll let you know how I like 'em.

I took your advice and def love the TI PowerBass strings on my Bongo 5. You were right, the smaller B string you mentioned clears up the low B buzz/Rap-out problem I was having. In fact I have lowered the action on all the strings with no buzz at all; replaced the Regular Slinkys that came on it. I prefer the overall tone of the TI's too - more even response IMO. This is one time that a set of strings costing twice as much is worth every penny to me.

Highly recommend Steve Dude Barr for TI's.

I had the strings within TWO DAYS of Paypalling on his eBay auction.

I'm glad you like them. And, I'm glad you went to Dude--that's who Bovine and I (and others, I'm sure) all get our TI's from. He really has a love/hate thing with the Bongos (he's into more classic basses like Washburn Rudy Sarzo models;) :D ), but he would love a Bongo with Powerbass strings on it! He's definitely got the best price on TIs, and like you said--he certainly doesn't move slowly getting them out to ya!

The low B isn't floppy at all, is it? And people think you have to have a .165"string or a 38" scale neck to get good definition...All you need is a good bass with a stiff neck and a string designed for tension as opposed to a neat diameter sequence on the package.

Just wait--they aren't cheap, but I bet you'll still have them on your bass 6 months from now. TIs pay for themselves by lasting for years.

Jack is scared of the Powerbass strings on the Bongo. He's an old-school flatwound kinda guy, so I can understand that. I guess the Powerbass strings and the Bongo 18V pre simply blow the mind of a guy who used to play a Gibson EB-something. :D
I don't have any problem playing jazz, or blues with the Bongo, but apparently the combination can be a bit much for some people....

I'm extremely excited about the new Superalloy string that TI is about to release--I have a feeling that they'll be perfect for the fretless Bongo!

Enjoy the TIs, SBG.

That's the beauty of the Bongo! The wide variations of tones you can get make it a great instrument to play for most any style of music!:D w00t!
