Hi,

I recently bought a LM2 and 2X10 traveller cab as a practice amp. My main rig is a GK1001RB with GK4X10 4ohm cab. Is it possible to run the GK 2X10 and 4X10 together on a gig without blowing the 2X10? How would I best connect them? Is there any advantage doing this as opposed to just running the 4X10?

BTW great product.

I'm not Pete Murray, but doesn't the 1001RB have a minimum impedance rating of 4ohm, in which case I believe hooking up an 8ohm Markbass cab and 4ohm GK cab could potentially damage your amp (the "magic smoke" I've heard so much about, but have thankfully never seen).

I thought the MB cab was 4 ohm. I also thought it was possible to run the GK with an 8 ohm load?

When you daisy-chain cabinets you are effectively putting the speakers in parallel. The formula is (I hope you are good at fractions):

1/Total = 1/cab#1 + 1/cab#2.

If you have 2 x 8-ohm cabs then the load seen by the amplifier will be 4-ohms.

If you have 2 x 4-ohm cabs then the load seen by the amplifier will be 2-ohms. There are only a few amps that will accept a 2-ohm load.

If you have a 4-ohm cab and an 8-ohm cab then the load see by the amplifier will be 2.667-ohms. If your amp is not designed for a 2-ohm load you will do it serious damage.

You should be able to use one or other of your cabinets with the GK but not both.

Just checked, my MB cab is 8 ohm load. The 1001 has two outputs, can I not connect a cab to each output?

Your very first post said the GK 4x10 was 4 ohm. If you plug it in you are at max load.

You put the 8 ohm with it you go down to the 2.66 ohm load and GK nor Markbass handles 2 ohm loads that I know of.

If both cabs are 8 ohm plug them in. If not don't

Let's don't confuse the lad. :D

Your GK rig won't handle both of them if the GK 4x10 is 4 ohms.

Okay, I get it now.

Thanks for the replies.

Hey Bassmonkey!

Sorry I got here so late. I'm in Germany producing a record and not as on top of the forums as usual.
Yes, all Markbass heads and combos have a 4 ohm minumum, which means you can use:
1x 8 ohm cab
2x 8 ohm cabs (which gives you 4 ohms)
1x 4 ohm cab, or
1x 6 ohm cab.
If you have any further questions, please let me know!
Best,
Peter

Cheers Pete.

There is a dial on the side of my cab labelled level control. There was no instruction booklet with the cab and nothing on the website. What does this dial do?
