Go HH. This will give you 2 settings comparable to a Jazz. I have a Stingray 5 HH and the positions with one coil of each Humbucker together are right for a Geddy-like sound. Since the sterling is wired in series I believe it would be even more punchy.

You may also consider a Big Al to have some more sounds. From the configuration this is as close to a JB as you can get with EB. This has the benefit of the Bongo preamp and an active / passive -option too.

Only if You compare it with Jazz Bass both volume pots max. on! ( neck and bridge single coil max. on)

My way of JB use was opposite, I was using bridge alone mostly, or neck alone rarely, or both max. sometimes!

So, I have that on my Strl 5 HS, but even better and improved of course!
I can use bridge single coil alone, neck single coil alone, and even better center switch position with all coils in serial/parallel use (1+3 & 2+phantom) :)
Don't even need to mention much better Music Man pickup construction and great 3 band EQ preamp..., it really can eat good old JB for a lunch! :D

P.S. ...I almost forget that main killer tone of all Sterlings are in fact serial mode of single H ceramic pickup! :)

By the way, Dan Louis, You have a PM!

Another fact you might want to consider is that you cannot dial in a parallel bridge bucker tone in the dual pup models. This maybe an issue if you need a Stingray like tone.

As a H Ray owner I have this covered so I picked an HS for my dual pup model. All I can say about HS is "position 4".

This is intesresting!

I would like to get the single coil bridge tone for some finger funk, plus I don't think I can slap on a h h.

So, with a ray 5 hs or sterling 5 hs, can I get a £en5er jazz tone with more balls? As on that vintage tone plus more?!

I'm guessing you cannot do this with a hh? That more about 2 coils all the time?

I like HS models.

For the record, the HS and HH models don't have a hugedifference in the 'slap space' - I have experienced no problem with either one. Just control yourself a bit more if need be...

You should be able to slap on an HH. A little cleaning up of technique is all it calls for. After one day of acclimation I was able to jam on some slap happy Zender/Jamiroquai on my Big AL.
