I recently bought two Bongos - a 4HH and a 5HS - they both came with very light gauge strings and the 5HS was strung E to C. I restrung the 4HH with DR Fat Beams 45-105 and yesterday, I restrung the 5HS with Overwater Stainless Steel Lights (38-128) B to G.

I plugged in the HS and wow - what a difference in volume! It's now noticeably louder than the 4HH and I would have thought the double bucker would have had the edge in volume.

Is this because of the extra wood on 5 neck? Both have fresh batteries.

I'd appreciate your help fellas...

A couple of things.

Did you check the pickup heights on both basses? One may be lower than the other.

Also, if you fade both to bridge only, do those sound the same?

I did a quick visual check of the pup heights and they were approximately the same but I'll check again tonight. Fading both to the bridge is a good idea - thanks.
