When you are mixing the coils from different PUs (like lever switch position 2 - outer coils, and position 4 - inner coils ) the sound techincally must be concidered as H or SS?

sound wise you will get ss, the sound of two single coils or two coils of 2 humbuckers is different from a single hubucker because the different position along the strings. as for hum-canceling it acts the same as a normal humbucker.

I love the HH outer coil tone...fantastic.

+1. Actually, my own fave is about 1cm different than that,
not that the 1cm is an important effect to my ears [YEMV].
Simply that my fave is 2 outa 3 coils on an HS [bridge coil
silent] just cuzza thaz my fave PU config. Bassically it's the
same SC-SC mode as your fave ... give or take a cm :)

My pair of SCs is just a bit narrower than yours, but then I
happen to tune down, so, effectively, I'm playing a shorter
scale than you [for any given key]. So ... shorter scale with
shorter span between SCs ... it all comes out in the wash ?

Well before I obtained my HH I thought I'm a humbucker sound fan. But my #1 position with rosewood SR is inner coils.
