Hi all,

I am in the middle of massively downsizing my collection from almost 20 electrics down to two or three good ones. It may sound strange, but I still needed a flexible, great playing, great sounding, no-nonsense guitar that would complement my Tyler Classic, which is a great Strat-type instrument. Well, enter the Morse and bye bye PRS, Fender, Valley Arts, Morgaine et al...

So, I bought a used four-pickup Morse model in blueburst a couple of weeks ago. It was made in 1991 and differs a bit from the recent Morse. Anyway, right now it is my favourite guitar. Lots of cool sounds in it and the playability, resonance and sustain is just out there. So much fun to play this really cool guitar. Thanks to both EB and SM the bug has bitten.

Now that the guitar and me know each other a bit better I have two little issues/questions and I was hoping that some of you guys have an answer for me.

1. what is the standard fretwire for these guitars? Dunolp 6105? Or is it custom size?

2. My guitar does not have locking tuners but Schaller6L (or so) instead. Are the locking tuners they put up on the recent guitars staggered ones? Reason for asking is that I would like a little more nut-pressure on the D- & G-string and I generally thing that locking tuners are the way to go. I love them and I could order a set of 4/2 schaller locking tuners online. But I wouldn´t if they were not staggered.

Thanks
Christof

Hi Christof, welcome and congrats on your Morse.

I can't answer about the fret wire but the Schaller locking tuners I've seen on MM guitars are not staggered. However, the string groove on them is quite low. As you can see by my "no string trees" comment, none are needed to get a proper string angle break over the nut.

you can get locking tuners from customer service.....& they do make for more angle across your nut slots.
i got a 90 morse i been playin since 91. i have like 5 or so morses........but this one is my favorite too !!!!

it has steadily been on countless gigs.....
also stolen once.....& recovered 18 months later ......very dusty..w/ the same strings....& unharmed.

Thanks for the quick answers on the locking tuners, guys. Much appreciated! :)

@tommyindelaware: yeah, these older Morse models have something special built in. I can´t really put my finger on it, but I know there is some unique mojo going on. My guitar feels so "right" to me. I wasn´t enarmoured with the newer version of the Morse but this one is just special.

Anybody know the specs of the fretwire?

Thanks
Christof

Congrats man! I too have a '91 and it's my fave. (Used to be Tommy's once upon a time.)

I upgraded to the locking tuners- rock solid tuning wise now. Rarely goes out.

I have no idea about the fretwire size- an email to CS would probably sort you out though.
