I have been having problems with the high e-string breaking over and over again on my Sterling JP70s whenever I do a 3 fret bend.

This just happened 4 times in a row, I used different brands of strings, but it still keeps happening. But the string always breaks right above the ball-end, so not at a spot where the string has any contact with the saddle.
I'm using a standard 010 set (010-046 and a 056 for the 7th string), standard tuning....

for now I will have to avoid doing any bends more than 2 frets, but that is not going to make me happy....

I think it must be some sharp edge on the base plate of the trem where the string goes through the hole, as the strings break at the same spot right above the ball end.

Has anybody of you guys experienced this? Is this a common issue on these?

Thanks,
Lars

I have this exact issue with my handmade B&W Vh1 guitar, I believe it is where you say its happening, I was going to try and file the inside of the hole at the baseplate and see how it works, the high E breaks after about a month on mine (i dont use this guitar everyday) thats why the strings are not changed more often, I change my strings once a month on my everyday axe.

I e-mailed Sterling by MM's support about this back in November, but no answer....
Re-sent my mail last Friday, hoping this time they will get back to me....

Santuzzo, it sounds to me like there is a sharp edge or something inside the trem block. This is something your warranty will cover. Get in touch with the store you bought the guitar from.

Thank you!
The weird thing is, I have three JP70's and this is happening on all of them.

I think the hole on the trem base-plate where the string runs though needs to be filed, an easy job I could do myself, only thing I'd be worried about is :
If I file or and the edges of the hole where the high e-string is coming through, wouldn't I have to somehow 'seal' it afterwards? Since I remove the finish/coating, that spot would be 'open' so to say and could start rusting over time?
