Help! High frequency chirp??

My StingRay 5 (see signature) is experiencing a high frequency ...for lack of a better word, "chirp".

When I roll my highs all the way back it goes away. The chirp starts to be noticeable just south of the middle indent.

Dirty pot? Something wrong with my pick-ups?

We're playing a benefit for the United Way of South Central Illinois this Saturday evening and I'd like to fix this so I don't have to EQ the problems away.

that is an odd one. It isn't the pots or the pickup. Nothing in those that could make such a noise.

Try some usual troubleshooting: new batteries, different amp, different cable, different outlet, different building. If still there, call CS.

try that and if all else fails give cs a call. i keep hearing good things about them

Many times when we assemble the instruments birds get loose from our therapeutic avairy. There may be a parakeet or small sparrow nesting under your pick guard. OK just some forum humor...

Its this new? Do you have an amp with a tweeter? what are your amp settings?

BP: That's the first place I looked... I released the poor little sparrow into a nearby state-run game farm. He'll be safe there.

So this problem started no longer than two weeks ago. I've swapped batteries, instrument cables. We've tested in different outlets, different power cables from my amp to the wall, different buildings.

It happens if I'm running my LittleMark II on my 4X10 or my 2x10 (or both). I don't have another head to test with....unfortunately my Ampeg 112 practice combo is in St. Louis (over an hour and a half away).

My LM II is set flat with just a little tweak to the VPF. I've recently been trying to better "learn my bass" by controlling my sound through the bass EQ itself than monkeying with the amp all the time.

pre amp problem is my guess. seen this happen with amps before. bad resistor maybe.

Update: plugged in the Bongo today and the problem goes away. Seems to me that points back to the SR5.

(another unrelated problem does arise however, I come down with Bongo-itis)

Contacted CS and I'll be shipping my StingRay to SLO in the next couple of weeks. We're playing out the next two weekends so it'll have to wait.. no longer under warranty either so my wallet will be angry with me.

I would like to say how freaking great the response was from customer support. Heard back from someone no longer than an hour after I submitted the form on-line and got quick and very detailed responses to any questions I had.

Running and maintaining a good business is about much more than just selling a good product... but EB obviously already understands that.

Bravo to the fine folks down in SLO.
