I was searching around the internet and noticed these. I do drop D a bunch and this seems like a good idea. Do they work well? Are they easy to install? How much do they cost? Thanks Ballers!

I had one on a bass a few years back and it was fun. Be sure to read the FAQ on Hipshot's site. It tells you how to get it to drop d in tune. When I got mine years ago there were no instructions with it - just trial and error to get to drop in tune. I plan on getting one again with the next bass.

Had them on all of my 4 stringers... and currently looking to get new ones for my recently acquired Rays.

Have them on all of mine... love them (hard to imagine a bass without them actually) - price listed above is about right - roughly 100/50 give or take

Also be careful choosing/ordering one for a 'Ray (and in the finish you want - some are in black). I know of someone who just ordered one without checking and got one for a J-Bass.

They are very handy for getting that D very quick. I have one on one of my 3 SR4's, looking to get 2 more!

I have one (Hipshot) on my Sterling and it works great. Got it new off the 'bay from a dealer for $70 shipped. If you can work a screwdriver you can install one....

Hipshots arrived last week. Installed one of them on my Sparkle Ray. Was really easy. Don't loose any parts when disassembling the Xtender and just follow the included instructions. More or less a "One, Two, Three" procedure.

However, the string post has not the same form (not tapered but cylindrical) as the original tuner. Anybody else observed that as well?

I just put one on my Sterling. With the little extra hassle it takes to tune the E string (tune flip check repeat) it almost seems easier to not use the d-tuner and just take the time to tune down to D the normal way between whatever songs need it. Are you guys tuning to D in the middle of songs or something? Now I'm thinking I should have saved my $90.

I used it that way... even flipped it for just a single not when in need. Works great if certain parts of a song demand a dropped D (e.g. a verse riff) but other work fine without it and are in fact easier to play with normal tuning.

I use on on one of my 4 stringers, I've not used it in the middle of a song but have thought about it. The installation is really easy. Once you have gotten used to them and tune how hipshot explains how to tune, you don't even have to verify if you are in tuned correctly. They work real well.

I've used them to varying degrees of success.

I just removed two and have them boxed up for anyone
who wants them, like new $50 each shipped in US.

They do fall out of tune after a dozen flips or so & it's just
easier for me to d-tune the old fashioned way. Plus,
my bass stays true-to-form without the added headstock
weight.

I have one on my Bongo, the model for MusicMan is D-Tuner BT-1. Works well, sometimes when I came back to E I needed to tune again, but I lubricated the nut and happens less. I use a flip to D at the end of this video [ame="http://es.youtube.com/watch?v=_JSADC8v_xA"]YouTube - double thumping & pluck 4[/ame]

the straight string post doesn't bother me even though it looks a little out of place than the other tuners...i love them on my basses. tuning them up is second nature now and takes no time. I found my hipshots to be very reliable with staying in tune

I have one on my 4-string SR and can play in standard tuning, then drop-D and back up again in the same song with no problems.
If I leave the bass in it´s case for a long time without playing it (happens a lot lately as I play 5-strings now mostly) it slips a little but then I just tune it again. When I tune my bass, I also tune the hipshot.
