Serial number

Does the serial number cited by the seller -- "# 80***74" -- make sense to anyone? I thought nearly all except the very early ones had a letter prefix. Can someone shed some light on this one?

Very nice, looks as if the whole body was on fire.

If that's a full maple body, I'd check for the weight...

I beleive that ikt is a custom body or this bass was made in the very brief Charvel era

I know that Grover Jackson made instruments for Musicman around that time. Was Wayne Charvel also involved in making Musicman instruments? Interesting. Never heard anything about that before. Cool.

Serial number mystery solved.

Educated guess on my part is that the "8" is a mis-read that is probably a "B".

Ken...

Ken Baker's suggestion that the seller misread the serial number proves to be absolutely correct.

The seller says that he misread the serial number and the correct serial number on the bass is B025*74.

That certainly answers my earlier question.

Thank you all for chiming in. I, too, have learned a great deal about the transition of Music Man from Leo Fender to Ernie Ball.

As a newbie, I can attest to how helpful this site has already been to me!

This bass is now mine!

Well, after much research and deliberation, I ended up buying this bass on eBay.

It arrived last night and it is far more beautiful in person than on the photos that were listed. The neck is absolutely perfect and the body is incredible.

I got a chance to play it for nearly two hours tonight and can report that it's everything I had hoped it would be. The tone is classic Sting Ray.

I'm going to have the bass set up for me and the good news is that a good friend will be arranging for Wayne Charvel to do the setup! My friend and I will be visiting with him as he lives and works relatively close to where we are in Northern California.

I guess we'll find out if Big Poppa is right that my new bass may have been built in the short Charvel era.

Thanks again to everyone for helping me with my "due dilligence" in researching this bass before buying it.

This is an absolutely terrific forum! :D

Charvel Setup

We're trying to get the setup done sometime next week.

I will post photos as soon as I take some good ones and learn how to post them in this forum.

Don't forget I'm still a newbie learning my way around here...
