I've noticed that I never seem to lose a good grip on them. Well, part of the reason is they last so dern long! Yesterday I broke out some new ones, and they were lucy goosey, slippin' and slidin' in my fangers. I inspected the old ones and the new ones, and realized that the used ones were just funky from use - plain ole skin, dirt, sweat and grit. So, I emptied the new ones into a shot glass, and when I'm just watching TV or feeling fidgety, I rub the picks between my fingers. It actually doesn't take much un-slick them.

Another useful tip from

So what "mods" do you make to make your pick stick?

Nice.

I used to drill holes in 'em - would stick to my fingers better. But ever since switching to the Ultex Jazz IIIs, it's a non-issue- they grip so well.

First thing I do with my brand new Jazz III's...I wash them off. They seem to have a "powdery substance" on them. Then, I take gorilla snot and rub them down. That is what I do...but...then again...I always think and do things out side the box.

I find that it's hard to keep the gorillas still as I get the snot from them, but it is sticky stuff! Just teasing, or course. I like the ultex jazz IIIs for the same reason as beej. They are nice and grippy right out of the package.

Is the Ultex the same shape, thickness, hardness as JIII black? Also, is the tip roughly textured? Some picks I've tried are and they have a scratchy sound against the string I don't care for.

Going to try some. Looking at a yellowish color JIII. Is that it?

I never have any problem with the black ones, but the reds may as well be made of teflon. The Ultex are easy to hold, but I don't like the feel of them at all.

I thought I had no problem with them either, Shane, until I opened some new ones. Easy enough to remedy, as mentioned.

That's the advantage of having a kid who plays. He winds up with leather straps, pedals, cables, strings, picks, shirts - all the stuff dad buys but winds up not using.

Curious about how I'll like the Ultex. They sure have a good copy writer if nothing else.

Dunlop Ultex Jazz III Guitar Picks let you dig in and grind, then jump to delicate, fluttering lines. Impossibly hard, yet absolutely responsive, these picks will reveal every flicker of emotion in your playing and still add brutal bite to the heaviest power cord you can unleash. Ultex picks are also virtually indestructible, hanging tough through countless pick slides, windmills, and other insanity.

The revolutionary Ultex material from which Jazz III Guitar Picks are crafted telegraphs the slightest contact, giving you an almost intuitive feel for the strings. With unprecedented resilience and snap, the Jazz III's release is so clean that individual notes sing out and artificial harmonics can be fired off at will. Practically weightless, with flawless, silky edges, the Ultex Jazz III doesn't emulate anything. It is the most versatile, expressive pick Dunlop has ever made.

Wow, had I known a pick could do all that I wouldn't have gotten married.

And there it is. I washed them in Dawn dish soap and hot water. They do have an oiliness when new, once washed well and dried, much better! Thanks for this one, Koogs.

I use brain picks from snarling dogs. Great grip from the get-go, you should check em out.
Best grip ever, for sure. I have some of the orange ones I use from time to time.

If they made a small form factor like the Jazz III, I'd be all over it like a fat kid on a smartie.

I've been using the black ones for about a year now, and the only thing I don't like is the slippery-ness. I switched to the Ultex ones for a while, but with my new gear they don't sound good, so I switched back to black ones.

Huh ? Holding on ?

Am I the only one that plays with my teeth ?

+1 on Ultex Jazz III's

But whenever the sneaky little suckers do their disappearing acts I can still grab a Black / Red and have no issues.

Has anyone tried a little resin?

Interesting to see how others deal with this.
