For those with home studios, did you give any thought to the color paint you painted that room? Or did you just slap any color on.

My studio is just a spare bedroom with some junk in it along with my amps, guitars and a korg d1200 recording unit. And white walls. Time to paint the interior again so I thought I'd ask.

I'm pretty sure color has something to do with inspiration, feng shui, etc.
Not sure whether to go warm or cool.

Keith... you may want to hang foam acoustic tiles on the walls (like the kind from Auralex) and they only come in a handful of colors... so maybe coordinate with that limited palette?

Hey Keith-

I just got a korg d1200 but haven't had the necessary combination of time and patience to figure out how to use it yet. How do you like yours, and did it take you awhile to get used to it?

Keith,
I'll post pics of mine once I get it organized... That was my birthday present this year from my wife. New studio furniture, racks, monitors etc.

My wife does the interior decorating and currently the room is two toned, an orange and some sort of turkey turd brown/yellow/sage sort of color. I guess it works because I don't mind spending time locked in there practicing etc.

You could leave them white and use lighting or track lighting with colored bulbs or gels to turn the walls into any color you want. But if I had to choose a color to play in......uh, hmmmmm...maybe some kind of blue. But, I'm more into earth tones meself.

Keith,

I think I'm one of a couple architecture/interior design guys at the forum.

(1) the foam egg carton will work really well for sound detination however are highly flamable and toxic when burning! So be careful with this sugestion.

(2) Yes colour can affect your moods, and therefore your inspirations and motivations. But colours really are personal as far as choices.
As far as Feng Shui, a lot of the beliefs here are more about the alignment and placement of things, but colour does tie into it as well.

Personally I just like all kinds of colour, or nothing at all.
What kinds of colours do you like? what kind of feeling do you wish to evoke in your studio?

I "think" my walls are precious peach...but I can't see the colors as I have flags, pics, music posters and sheet music stapled to the walls....:D

Sean,
Been about a year since I recorded anything on the korg. You can get going on it pretty quick. I need to learn how to mix and eq better. And bouncing tracks down are a bit of a challenge, but I've never used anything else so can't really say how it compares to others.

I basically plug my pod (or amp) into it and hit record.

Fogman,
A color that I was thinking of is the color of the bedroom on the TV show King of Queens. You get that there? Kind of a maroonish red thing.

STEVEB,
I was jamming at this sax player's studio earlier this year (also a spare bedroom in his house) and he had some sound damping things hanging in BOLD PURPLE and painted the rest of the room that color too. But so much of that particular color felt weird. Overpowering in a way. Distracting in a way. Don't think I'll be needing to go that route though.

Back on topic...

Keith, I'd avoid extreme colors (bright), and I've played in so many all-gray studios that I'd avoid that as well.

Maybe one of those floating wood laminate floors like Pergo or Tundra to brighten the room? Depends if you're looking to get any particular acoustical properties out of the room, too.

Yes we get that show! LOL.
Dough is exactly like my brother-in-law and Carrie is a lot like my wife (but she denies it!)
That's a nice colour. Basically, if you like it, then that's all you need!
After you do this makeover, be sure to post some before and after pics.
