And white walls. Time to paint the interior again so I thought I'd ask.

Full wall mirror is a must so you can practice the Yo-Yo Ma face. I heard that's what they teach in Juilliard... :D

Seriously, if you hang your guitars on the wall you may wanna try this:

Cheap & easy to DIY & versatile when you wanna change the "mood" (or gear), a very clever way to decorate/display.

Geektard,

Very nice vibe to the display, but those teetering guitars on the small wall shelves wouldn't let me focus very much on the music.

Man...that place has a nice "friendly" vibe to it.....I like how it is layed out....

Pretty nice, eh? ;) I drove 2 hours down there just to see how they do their interior. It’s actually a converted old warehouse building, they just slap some thick white paint on the old brick wall, mount some metal brackets and bolt on the plywood boards. You can get pretty much all of those stuff from IKEA!

I wonder who did the interior design for them…

Teetering? There ain't no earthquakes in New England dood!

G-Guitars is a pretty cool store, I've been there a few times trying out high-end acoustics. Still haven't found one I like more than my Earth 1200. The high ceiling and wide open floor give it a very comfortable feel.

I thought that I posted this last night, but that must have been the fatigue kicking in.

I redid a room in my house over the first part of the summer, stripping it down to the studs, and covering the room first with mass loaded vinyl to deaden the room from outside sound. I then ran 2 layers of 5/8" drywall all the way around, with texture, etc. Then, I put some sealant in the window cracks and crevices to block out any remaining sound (and pretty much commit to never using that window again!).

I then put this Super 6 (STC 73 rating) underlay on the floor, to be covered up with a light beech laminate flooring. The color of choice for the room was from the Behr catalog, Ocean Tropic. I have yet to get the white baseboards up, replace the outlets and switches in the room, and hang the dome light in the room, but it is foamed for recording, and overall blocks out about 95% of the outside noise for recording.

On topic, I'm working with NorM on a couple of things here, and since I'm apparently a drummer in guitarist's clothing, I have had to sit in that room so far for about 6 hours total to do these drum tracks. The blue on the walls, coupled with the brightness of the laminate, makes for a very relaxing environment, one where you don't tire out easily, and which keeps you a bit peppy, even though you've been motoring away for about 2 hours on the same thing!

I say, go with blue, from experience...just not too dark...but that's IMHO.

LOL! Um, no loud guitar thumping either? Anyway, very tastefully done.

STEVEB,
More good tips, thanks!

Damn DWF,
Sounds like a really nice set up.
Is their a couch to kick back on?

I'll prolly get rid of the furniture, books, and junk that's in there...but not do any soundproofing at this point. I don't record anything with mikes.

I would like to record a solo cd at some point of just one guitar, nothing else and no overdubs.

Unfortunately, there's not enough room in there for a couch...the drum kit in the room takes up quite a bit of space.

However, if you're in that room, you should be playing, anyways...no couch for you! :)
