How did we develop the "No Pics, it doesn't exist" rule?

Anyone remember how we got the whole "No Pics, it doesn't exist" rule? As long as I've been here, we've been hassling people for pics, but does anyone remember how that got started?

Its the same at other boards i frequent....Lots of big talkers out there i guess hahaha...so the boys started saying .."well i am sure you have one ,,,...but without pics it doesnt exist"...

I think it might have been on that one tablet with 11 - 15 that Moses supposedly dropped--according to the Mel Brooks movie, anyway.

In my research of internet terms and memes and the like I did for my Sociology degree, it seems to have come from people claiming to have 'hot girlfriends' on the internet. As more people started to claim this, more people began to doubt this, and started asking for pics of said 'hot girl,' and it has now translated across 'genres.' 'Trolls' are notorious for asking for pics of just about anything they can turn into sexual gratification.

Personally, it is a tenant of Internet Guitar Etiquette. You don't just talk about a Music Man and expect people to imagine what it looks like, lol.

Since I joined I know there were always requests for people to post pics of their axes, but I believe I was the first to use the Johnnie Cochranism in October 2005

Before I got my first Ball 3 years ago I was a lurker on here and I quickly found out from just reading different threads that announcing a new guitar purchase without pics here is almost the same as walking into a strangers house and helping yourself to what's in the fridge....simpy not appropriate. I have to admit..I'm also one of those that gets a little antsy when there are no pics in a NGD thread...I'm a visual type of person, so I need the eye candy as well.

I also think ti's just the times we live in....the age of instant information. Not many people need scanners anymore for any recent photography, and more often than not, everyone running around with a cell phone has a camera built in, so in other words....a new guitar thread with no pics....no excuse.

The worst are the lurkers who provide a serial number in the DOB thread, Dan says it's for example a black sparkle Luke, and they don't show pics! Cruel!

Not being to computer savvy, it took me a long time to figure out how to post a picture. So for a long time, I imagine no one believed I owned a MM bass. Goes back to the old saying "Don't believe anything you hear and only half of what you see". I learned that from my favorite high school teacher many moons ago.
