I have an evh in my possesion at the moment ,it has various problems which I am trying to sort out if I cant then its going back to the seller....

one of the problems is the floyd will not sit perfectly flush with the body its sitting about 2mm above the body I recently had an axis which had the floyd sitting perfectly flat/flush against the body

the evh I have has a metal shim attached to the underside of the baseplate of the floyd whereas the axis didnt have the shim so Im guessing its possible to remove the shim ,can anyone advise me on how to remove it please

Sorry if this is obvious to you, but you did try to tighten the trem claw screws on the back right?

To take that shim off, you will have to completely take off the bridge from the guitar. E.g. strings, trem springs, do this carefully as releasing the springs may make the bridge scratch the top side of the body. Once you have the bridge out you will then need to remove the saddles, A-B inclusive. Under the saddles are three screws that hold the brass block, spring plate and the shim that you are referring to.

Hope this helps.

Hi thanks . yes I looked at the claw springs and the trem is as far back as it can go , the shim is quite thick like 2mm ish that is what is preventing it from sitting flush , cheers

Hi , yes your right buying a new axis is probably a lot easier in some respects and the seller has agreed to let me return the evh but...
it is actually a very nice guitar apart from the problems it has, which Im sure can all be sorted out, its just a matter of how much it would cost to do the work , if the seller would give me the cost of the work that needs doing then I would love to keep it, Im hoping I can work this out with him today or tommorow.

I havent really looked that closely at buying a new axis, Im in the uk and I honestly dont know if there are dealers I could buy direct from within the eu ,I dont really want to buy from outside the eu its just too expensive with taxes etc... I paid £1650 gbp for this evh and it was in the eu so there were no taxes and it was cheap shipping
which without the afore mentioned problems wouldnt be that bad a price , for comparison if I bought an used evh or new axis from the usa or outside of the eu for the same price £1650 then by the time taxes and shipping and customs handling are put on top it would end up closer to £2300 gbp

This evh badly needs the frets levelling and crowning as notes are buzzing and choking all over the place even though the action is quite high , and the two studs that the floyd floats on need replacing and the shim under the floyd needs removing so the action can be properly adjusted ,and it needs a new jack , the luthier I normally use told me it can all be done , but I want the seller to cover the cost of the work . if he does then I think it will still be worthwhile my keeping it , keep your fingers crossed for me...

cheers Ian
