How do you buy a guitar as a couple ?

This actually happened soon after we were married 11 years ago.

I bought a brand new U.S. Strat for $500 i didn't tell her and it just appeared. I had it for about a week and she didn't even notice. Then she flipped out big time.

I need to buy another guitar I need some help guys

We are still married.

(sry for the unhappy face i can't edit it)

I just say "Honey, I bought/am buying a guitar." She knows I love guitars. She also knows that I wouldn't do anything to harm our financial situation. I trust her as well.

Honestly, I don't understand how two people can share the rest of their lives together if they don't even trust each other with money (I mean, talk about something unimportant!)... We have one bank account, one credit card, and it's always been that way...

How soon is your anniversary, or her birthday? In my case, I already had a really nice Axis, but I wanted a really nice second guitar. I didn't have anything of value to trade that I didn't need, so this purchase was going to have to be out of pocket. So, for our anniversary, I suprised my wife with a 3 stone diamond ring. Nothing really expensive, just a quarter karat princess cut 3 stone diamond ring from J.C. Penny's for about $500. She didn't get me anything, because I had told her that we shouldn't spend a lot of money on each other this year. Well, she was so overwhelmed with love and guilt at the same time, that it must have short circuited her judgement, because she gave me the credit card and told me to go to the music store and get whatever I wanted under $500.

The trick is, first, you have to let her think that it's her idea in that moment that she forgets how much she resents you, second you have to make sure that moment occurs when the music store is open, because that moment will NOT last long.

I can empathise...I just went a little ebay crazy in the last month and bought 2 guitars, 3 pedals and then an amp from the local music store.

I kind of explained it as a build up of tension as I hadnt bought anything guitar related since 96 and needed a gear change! I sort of got off the hook by saying that my guitar lesson income will pay for them, however I think I'll be teaching for a few years to come... ;)

Bought her a pair of boots and she's going to the upmarket salon for a haircut so she's cool with the situation!

Back to work...need to!! ;)

Actually she bought it for me. It was a Christmas present this year. She's known that I've wanted to play guitar forever and never acted on it.

It started out as a little joke that she took and ran with. I was divorced at the time and my ex told her that don't worry in 7 years little "Susie" would come along and I'd be leaving her as well. So knowing how much I wanted to play she told me she would cut to the chase and get me little "Susie" now. She asked me what guitar I would really like to have and it was a no brainer, I told her the Petrucci.

She's going to have the back plate engraved for me, "Little Susie, the buck stops here".

Wow, you got off easy. I got my SS and my wife got the kitchen redone. She says, "yeah, but you enjoy the benefits of the kitchen too". This is true, but I could have lived with the old butcher block counters and bought SEVERAL guitars or other gear. :D

I really want another acoustic with Maple back and sides. I'll have to wait and save for that though (and probably go with a Tacoma or Larrivee instead of a Taylor).

guitars? bah! I told my wife that SEX was what I needed to calm my nerves whenever I had the urge for a cigarette ;) It's been 10 years, and I still regularly get the urge to "smoke" :D
