How impulsive and kooky I am.

I went to the local music store today, because I just wanted to get out of the house. I brought my SS with me because you never know what you'll end up playing on otherwise...

I have been on a huge Brad Paisley kick lately, and saw that sitting in the store was a Dr. Z Delta 88 head and a 2x12 vert cab. I plugged in the SS, and within a minute, I knew I was walking home with this amp.

I talked to one of the guys at the store, and I'm trading in both of my Mesa/Boogie amps on this Dr. Z. I bought a Mesa Roadster a few months back, but haven't used it once... I keep playing the Mesa Blue Angel because the clean tone is so incredible (I rarely use any drive or crunch...).

The Blue Angel is great, but breaks up really early on. The Delta 88 on the other hand, doesn't break up until the volume knob reaches 3 o'clock. That is a clean amp! I get the blues vibe, the country twang and the rockabilly sound too!

Damn my impulsive buying, but damn Dr. Z for making such great amps. Sorry Mesa/Boogie, but you've lost me to the boutiques. I think I have to get my ass in gear, and put out a little demo. This gear (EBMM and Dr. Z) are costing me way too much, and I need to actually put my playing towards something good!

Ahh, a life lesson taught for only twenty-six hundred dollars. Thanks life!

I used to snicker at all these $100 per watt boutique amps...until I played one.

The Dr. Z MAZ 18 is magic. Every other amp I have is for sale except one.

Lenny, I've heard good things about the Zinky's. I've always wanted a Blue Velvet, but that's just way too much $ for me man.

The glorious tone.

I have been playing the amp for two hours now, and it is amazing. I've never even fathomed an amp capable of shaking the house with its clean tone. I have always been used to suffering the premature breakup of clean tones on amps; but no longer!

I can't speak highly enough of these amps... apparently they don't even make Delta 88 models anymore either. Weird. It is well worth the money. It cost about the same as my Mesa Roadster, so I'm not out any money!

I've got the MAZ 18 Junior NR head...love it! Do you have the head or a combo? One of my office mates played my MAZ+Z-Best, and promptly bought the MAZ 18 210 combo. The open back combo is different enough from my ported 212 cab that I'm really jonesing for that combo, or at least an open back 210 enclosure for my head.

I sold five guitars this week, and money from gear sales has to go back into gear, right?

We have a guy here in Cardiff that makes amps from scratch - all I can say is WOW!!

I have a lot of annual leave to take and I'm spending some time around his place with my Albert - gonna get an amp outta him somehow.

My man, the actually subject of the conversation was about impulse and being kooky. I think you're well in the scope of the topic; as long as you come bearing ideas and thoughts about how to get one of these homemade amps. I suggesting eBaying parents, or a multiple year plan of servitude. Something along those lines will get the guy to come to your side.

Just remember... it's all about creativity. The more out there you are, the easier they get subdued and lulled into submission!

BTW, on Brad's website, at least in the past, he had very detailed notes of which guitars and amps he used on each song. He often uses an Axis SS with MM90s for the more distorted parts...IIRC, he has a trans-orange one with a rosewood board. He also records leads running into a 5W Mini-Z...one knob, volume only, and he gets that tone.

Dr. Z amps are great amps, and actually pretty reasonably priced for boutique stuff. You really can't go wrong with them.
