so i decided to do the unthinkable this week..but i need to sell my axis

so i took it into my local guitar shop call "axe in hand" and when i got there i put my guitar on the counter and told the man i wanted $850 for it...he looked it up and said it would sell for that much, but he would only buy it for $300, some reasons why he told me so low was because its trans purple and because it has a floyd rose...that didnt make any sence to me considering i thought those two made the guitar cost more....well to make a long story short i told this man in the store i would never sell it for that low and walked out with my guitar...

sorry for complaining..but i was very angry about this:mad:

That's just how it is tho. I was talking to this guy in a store in long Island, and he said why the dealers always pay so little for gear is that they have to resell it and of course for more. The guy said he bought a guitar from some kid for 500 bucks, and sold it for 1000  ! Basically NEVER try to sell anything at a dealer. I wish that it would be possible so that there wouldnt have to eb the hassle of selling online and shipping and packing, but that's the only way to go if you want the money you want. I am going to be putting my Ibnz on eBay and another one and another one lol. I'm going all balls :D , except for my classical.

You could always try Craigslist first and then if that doesn't work out, I hate to say it, but EvilBay. You'll get what you want for it. Heck, post it here, you never know if any of those lurkers are looking for a good deal. On a bad day there's like 100+ people lurking on this website.

Good luck, Glenn |B)

There's always FleaBay - I sold 2 guitars and a Mesa amp this month with one listing each and got more than the price I was asking for each.

Why would that surprise you? They need to make a profit. You need to sell it privately. Put an auction up on Ebay. It takes two seconds.

Selling guitars on EvilBay isn't all that bad. Check this out, once I decided I needed an Albert Lee to be complete, I was building guitars using War*#@@ parts. It wasn't too hard to sell them at a profit and shipping wasn't that bad either. I used UPS, sent the items insured, and both the buyer and seller get the ability to track the item. My buyers were pleased and I was glad to have the confirmed delivery. I don't know haow close you are to one of the UPS shipping stores, but they seem to be popping up around here all the time.

Good luck and post all possible specs of what your selling, it will save you the grief of having to answer tons of questions.

I don't understand what some people have against EBay. It works. I've been using for years and have never had a problem.

Ditto. Nothing but good experiences on eBay, and I've bought a TON of gear on there.

Good luck with the Axis- you should be able to sell it privately for what you want. Post it here, Harmony Central, the Gear Page, or eBay.

The only downside to Ebay is the ridiculous (IMO) listing fees - they nickel and dime you. :D

EBay isn't that bad of a way to sell off a guitar that you don't want.

I've sold three guitars on eBay, and considering what a guitar/music shop would have given me on a trade in, I came out WAY ahead.

Yes, there are listing fees, and they do charge an additional fee (3-5% of selling value of the item, depending on how you list it). I'd guarantee that you'd get closer to what you're asking.

I bought my Axis on eBay, and there aren't really that many EBMM guitars available on there. Give it a shot.
