I was wondering in my stages of deciding on the LUKE I want to get, wether I should get one with a piezo or not. It sounds pretty cool to have it, but I have not tried one w/ the piezo myself since there are none here in NYC. So just to clarify, I can run the piezo AND regular pups at the same time right? And than I can just run the piezo by switching that toggle and than by switching the toggle towards the head stock it will be just the pups? And than the jack all the way closest to the floor is JUST pups? will there be a difference in the clean sound if I use the piezo just through a regular amp on clean setting? And what kind of sounds will I get if I can mix the piezo with the magnetic pups on clean and distortion? Thanx in advance people! :D  I'm still actually deliberating between Carbon Blue pearl and Saphire Black. I like the idea of a semi sparkly black :p .

Right.

It's a 3-way switch. The position towards the head selects just the magnetic pickups. The middle position blends magnetic and piezo. The position away from the head selects just the piezo.

Just magnetic. The "upper" jack is either magnetic or piezo, depending on how you've adjusted that 3-way switch. Having two jacks lets you have two simultaneous outputs: one for magnetic only and one for piezo only. It's a nice, versatile setup.

One thing to take note of is that with the piezo version, the bridge will not be set up to float and will lower pitch only. The non-piezo version comes with a floating set up straight from the factory, so the pitch can be both raised and lowered. Of course, you can always set up a piezo version to float, but be aware that the piezo pickups will no longer function until you put back that third spring and get the bridge flat against the body again.

Either way you go, the Luke is a great guitar. As Luke himself has said, "You will not be disappointed." :)

Eilif, thanks a lot man. Like I said it sounds good to me. I am not worried about the floating set up because I like to lower the pitch only a little bit sometimes anyway. I am not a bar wanker as some other people, so I really am not worried about that. Even if I got a LUKE without the piezo I would probably set up the tremolo to a non floater, and plus I'm definatly putting 10s on it anyway. Thanks again.

that would bite. All the more reason the buy a Petrucci instead. What fun is it to only lower the pitch. Useless IMO.

I got 2.

If you mostly play clean, it's a no brainer IMO.

If you play mostly distortion, not sure it's necessary. Might be better off saving $$.

I didn't see Luke play one with piezo this past Summer at baked potato.

...but he might not know how to use one.

Bwahahahahahahah!!!

hahahhaha, Keith that's funny "but he might not know how to use one"! Well I mostly play with distortion on the electric, but I like to play clean stuff as well. However I am still wondering what kind of sound is produced when the magnetic pups AND piezo are running together. Nobody answered that one yet. But anyway, I have to decide wether it's gonna be worth it or not. Bloody decisions decisions.
Oh, by the way Tristan congrats on your success and especially with the endorsement from our favourite guitar comapny :D ! Have you thought about your own sig guitar??? That would be interesting wouldnt it.

to be honest, I don't need nothing else than a luke ! the guitar is perfect...I'd like to see it with a maple top but just for the look ! nothing has to be changed on the luke...for the rest, I don't think my small talent deserves a sig model...comparing to luke, petrruci and all the family, I'm just a beginner !

Re: piezo w/ magnetics.

I use it more with the magnetics than just alone. One regular guitar cable, but the piezo is never on full, usually between 4 and 8 (though it's just a guess as there are no numbers on the Luke knobs. Also, no numbers on piezo controls.

Just a bass, treb and trim phillips screw.

If you set it up right, it'll function just fine floating. You just can't dive bomb when
using the acoustic sound.
