Being the owner of one of the shell pink classic stingrays I would like to know how many were made. I know they were a GC exclusive and saw a few of them around the different GC stores. I hope this is the right place to post this question. If not my apologies and please move it where it needs to be. Thanks.

My understanding is that MM has a policy about not revealing their production numbers. (Speaking from own experience as an inquisitive forumite.)

I've asked Customer Service about quantities of different runs recently. They answered that they are not providing such information.

Wow! Really? I don't understand why they would not want Musicman owners to know. Thanks for the input. I guess I'll have to see if CS chimes in on this.

One of the benefits of being a private company is that you don't have to reveal information publicly if you don't want to.

"Owner's curiosity" is not a reason to divulge info to competitors. The only numbers released were the Dargie 1 totals. Other than, "xx of xxx" runs, there is simply no reason to say how many of a particular bass, guitar, pickup config, color were made.

If they were a Guitar Center special run, why don't you ask Guitar Center how many they ordered? That's who you bought it from, right?

That said, maybe Guitar Center's Shell Pink was a "limited to 50 pieces" deal, and they'll tell you. I don't get paid for these opinions and they are worth exactly that. :D

You could probably make an educated guess from various classic Ray threads on here - there were maybe a couple made as pre-production when they were launched (which got snapped up by forum members IIRC) - then it was announced they weren't a production colour - Jay's was a one off for breast cancer charity - plus a small number for GC? Must be one the most exclusive colours on the Classic Stingrays. Thus less than 30?

Cool colour btw - I have the coral red, which is a darker pastel pink in some lights - almost a strawberry colour - looks great.

I don't see how giving out how many shell pink SR's were made will be giving out any trade/marketing secrets but that's not my call.

Love the shell pink color! Was just playing mine this past weekend too. I was going to put my new Cobalts on it but the Super Slinky's I have on it right now are still really bright so I decided to hold off doing so for a little bit. As far as how many were made? I have no clue? Would I like to know how many were? Sure I would. Same with my Dargies Delight II Bongo but I also respect the right of Music Man and co to keep that stuff private. They have their reasons and I'm sure those reason are for a benefit.

Yeah old thread, I know... but I was bummin' on missing out yet again (3rd time) on the pink one that recently came up for sale again.
From what I remember Freddels, it's not "trade secrets"... it's the involved time it would take (and really waste) for an employee to go back through the various back-records looking for one-sie/two-sie items. Employees have more important things to do, like the new production.
I had one of these pink ones for a very short time, like maybe 4 months. I do regret selling it off, I didn't think finding another pink would be so difficult after this much time. It was also a difficult bass to purchase in the first place. Only a few GC stores got them, and the salesman at my local big Seattle store couldn't even get me one, I had to start calling all the other big stores until I found one heading to a guitar show.
Here was mine. Wish now I could find another....

Finally got the Cobalts on mine a few weeks back. Love how they feel and play too.

Here is a pic of my Shell Pink Stingray Classic. The breast cancer awareness bass has some pretty cool events coming up pretty soon in the future too. I'm looking forward to continuing spreading awareness.
