Howdie everyone.

I was just wondering, for those who use EBMM's w/ a Marbass amp, how high can you set your 'gain' before the blue 'clip' light flashes (w/ your bass on high pretty volume)?

I have a 2x10 combo, and mine begins to clip at around 9 or 10 oclock (w/ 7 oclock being 'off'). That is one HOT pickup!

I have the CMD102P and an SR5. With the volume on the SR5 dimed, I can turn the input gain on the Markbass to about 2 o'clock before it starts to clip.

My LMKII gain stays right around 10 o'clock. Gives me a very rare blip of blue now and again...

Now, the Master Volume... That's another story! :D

Eh...with Bongo 4H, I think I have my gain around 8:30 - 9 o'clock--somewhere around there. However, I'm not really anywhere near diming the volume knob on the Bongo. It's maybe about 5 or so.

So with the volume on your Bongo at half, if you turn the input gain on your Markbass amp past 9 o'clock it will clip the amp?

It will depend on the EQ you use on both bass and amp too. Running pretty much flat my SR4 with 3 band would clip my SA450 with a strong attack at 10:30-11 on the gain. The 2 band has less output and in more like 1:00 on the dial.

In Aus dollars they go for $1190 but I think those in the US pay about $600, right? Run whatever cab suits you. I've seen heaps of LMII used with 2x 1x12" cabs, I'm mainly using my SA450 (basically a LMII with semi-para mids ina 2RU case) with an SVT610. It also sounds great with my NL-210. The MB cabs don't seem to get spoken about as highly as the LMII does, but I have absolutely no experience with MB cabs. I believe the power ratings to be a lot more honest than most, and these little amps will push damn near anything you care to put under them.

Mani,

Good point about the EQ & attack. I have the amp set pretty flat, a bump in the lo-mids, and the bass' eq with mid boosted & bass 'bumped', treb on detent. I think my fingerpick attack is rather heavy, but I imagine a slapper (which I'm not) even surpasses my own low 'clip' factor...

But yeah, I was just surprised at the output of this bass, I have other active preamp bass that i can put on at around 1 or 2 oclock, and the passive ones, forget it...

You can disregard my initial response...went to GC today during lunch and A/B tested my SR5 with another just like it and it looks like mine needs a little CA vacation.

Well, I don't know if it will or if it won't, because I'm not looking at the little clipping light. When I'm setting the gain too, I'm slapping the sucker hard. I'm sure if I were not playing as aggressively, it would not clip. Besides, I'm not really sure of all these numbers. I'd have to look at it again.

I was just curious because the OP was asking at what point it started clipping. I assumed it was while playing normally.

My main bass (non EBMM) is super hot and I only turn the gain on about 30% makes me think I should get some different electronics.

On my LMK II, I have the gain around 12 o'clock, and with the EQ on the bass set flat (5-string Bongo), and the volume dimed it doesn't clip. On the amp I have the bass, treble, and high mids boosted, and the low mids cut a bit. It's a little weird, but I like the tone. Probably gonna change it soon though, since I'm going to start playing some stoner rock, haha.

I play pretty hard with my right hand, and it never clips at that setting. Of course, I never dime the volume, so that might be it.
