Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew how to adjust the magnet height in the Musicman Bass pickup. I have a mid 2000's Ernie Ball Musicman Stingray bass. LOVE THE BASS, but on most gigs, I am playing with a pick. From where my hand rests along the back bridge, where the pick strikes the A string, the magnet in the pickup is at a place where the pick is constantly hitting/scraping the magnet.I have lowered the pickup itself, but no difference. Quite uncomfortable. ALSO, the magnets themselves are REALLY sharp! Unlike the newer re-issue style ones where the magnets are way more rounded off and easier to play against with your fingers. BTW, if you haven't played the newer "classic" EBMM basses, by all means DO! They are such a superior instrument and WELL worth the money. I love mine, but because of the difference in the pickups, I sometimes wish I waited for the new ones. But anyway, if anyone has a perspective on this or has experienced the same and has a good solution I would be really appreciative. Thanks, Z

If you're just trying to get the pole pieces to sit down farther into the cover that's an easy fix. I made little shims out of thick card stock, I cut them to the same shape as the pickup bobbins and cut holes for the pole pieces. If you put one or two on the top of the coil, it'll make the outer poles flush with the cover. I had a picture on my hard drive, I'll post it if I can find it.

One alternative is to replace your original MM pickup with a post 2003 MM pickup, they have very nice rounded top edges. They show up used regularly and sound the same as earlier pickups with the sharp poles.

<edit>Found the older thread where we talked about this: http://forums.ernieball.com/music-man-basses/44049-older-stingray-pickups-sharp.html

and here's that pic:
