How to Fix Scratches?

My Blue Dawn StingRay 5 got scratched...right on the top edge of the body, near where my right arm would rest. The problem is that the scratches seem to be pretty deep...through the finish. And because of this, I'm finding that the scratches are getting a bit worse...paint is beginning to chip from the edges of the scratches.

Is there any way to minimize this damage? I really don't want it to get worse, but it looks like it will. It's not a big problem yet (even though it still breaks my heart), but I want to keep it from getting bad.

One word: ick. Sorry to hear about your misfortune.

I would personally suggest one of the two methods to resolution, if I'm on the right track with understanding this, etc. If not, someone smack me and point me and the gent in the right direction otherwise:

1. Talk to the source, that being EB/MM, about getting that pup sealed where the scratch is; perhaps it can be relacquered there to seal up the gap, and prevent further damage?

2. Same thing, just talk with a local luthier that you would have confidence in, ie. that is, that isn't going to tear your sh*t up because he THINKS he knows what he's doing.

Just keep in mind that if it requires relacquering, that is a long process. I have a finish crack on one of my EVH's, in the horn below the neck. A luthier here said that EB/MM puts like 20 coats of lacquer on their finishes, and that each application sits for a day before the next. Under that timeline, plan on being without 'er for a month, at least (hope ya have a backup!)

However, get it done right, and you shouldn't have to worry about it anymore (unless she gets hit again!)
