Hey guys.

Just a question regarding cleaning and preserving finish etc.:

How do you clean your guitar?...Like getting rid of fingermarks on the body, cleaning the frets and fretboard, not to mention the neck itself.

My dad uses Dunlop Lemon Oil on his guitars...He says it works...

I've read a couple of posts containing a lot of names...But none of these is able to get hold of in Denmark... What can I use instead?

And another thing: I've watched Luke playin' his guitars...I've noticed, that some of them looks like the neck has some kind of lacquer ( not sure I spelled it right )...Like they are blank and shiny...Not "dry" and flat like mine...

Any ideas?

I use car wax on the bodies of my guitars with the exception being the Stealth Bongo....works for me.

I use lemon oil on the fretboard....all mine are rosewood.

As for the neck when Luke plays, I don't know, but I do use finger ease on all mine. I spray it on and play....Luke might use a similar product, but I cannot answer for him.

I believe that "glossy" finish on the back of the neck is just from all the playing he does on that guitar. I'm not 100% though.

Honestly, if you use the gunstock oil and wax that EBMM recommends, your neck will be in great shape. I use the same stuff, and the neck on my Axis stays gorgeous.

I do use lemon oil to clean the neck.

I will use Endust to clean off the guitar body before I use any guitar polish. Make sure it's the wax free stuff. The stuff I use is in a white can.

Well, he plays a lot...:)

Just wondering...Has anybody tried waxing the neck?
It is possible to apply a SMALL amount of wax to the neck. Jongitarz (resident EB guitar guru) I believe mentioned this a little while back.
Dont get applying too much lemon oil to the neck - it's not good to "blast it on ".
Also don't use too much wax on the back of the neck as this will give a finish that does not represent the finish when a new guitar leaves the factory.

I wax the neck on my Axis twice a year (same as my car). I use the B-C wax though.

I only use a small amount of lemon oil to clean off the neck, then wipe to dry, and then use the Tru oil.

You should listen to your local guitar store's recommendation on what to use on body and rosewood fretboard, they'll be able to tell you what's available in Denmark. EBMM's paint job is nice but doesn't require special caring product.

As for the neck, EBMM's neck is very similar to DANISH oil finish so if you have trouble finding the Birchwood-Casey oil, I'd go with normal linseed oil for woodworking. Neck-wax is the same, go ask a local woodworker what kind of wax to use on Danish oil finish and use the local stuff instead.

I don't worry too much about cleaning. Just wash your hands before playing and wipe the guitar down with a clean old T-shirt after you're done should keep the wood clean for a long time.

every time i've asked a local guitar shop about EBMM neck cleaning they always have no idea what i'm talking about. probably because all their guitars in the shop have laquer necks and they havent even seen a oil/wax finish before! so they aint no help

Yep, that's why I only wannna ask them stuff about body and rosewood fb. For the neck, I go straight to the carpenter!
