Help! Humbucker headache.....

I am in the market for a couple of new buckers to change things up a bit. I have just had my Engl Blackmore re valved and biased and it sounds AMAZING but my rust old bucker in my ASS is squeeling a bit and acting up. While i do find the graphs and descriptors OK they dont tell me how they will really sound. The Blackmore is a toppy sounding amp so im not looking for too much treble.

My thoughts at the moment are the

Dimarzio Tone Zone and Air Norton combo (does this offer much difference from the stock pups?)

Bare Knuckle Rebel Yell or Holy Diver (too much treble with the Blackmore????)

Seymour D's custom, full shred, screaming demon or the bridge and a 59 in the neck (Dean Well's choice!)


My style is.....well......funky shred! (nuno esc..)

Not sure how much help this will be but it seems to me you are looking at options which are either very similar to the original pups or quite high output which will give you minimal tonal difference or accentuate the 'toppy' nature of your amp respectively.

Have you considered a more vintage or lower output choice which will give you a more 'expressive' tone and/or smooth out the amp's bright character?

I realise you may not be after this but throwing it into the pot as a suggestion. Good luck whatever you decide!

In my opinion you cant go wrong with the Tone Zone for fat thick shred and rock/metal tones. You should also consider the AT1 which is apparently the closest to the ASS/Axis bridge pickup at the moment. Timmons has such an amazing tone but that pickup is supposed to be nice and thick with a bit less output than a Tone Zone. I would also highly recommend checking the Suhr pickups. They are really fantastic! My favorite pickup is the DSH+ which is the higher output model with more high end roll off. Really nice for such tones you are looking for. And the Suhr pickups split really well! I also have the DSV in the neck and it sounds really nice split.

Hey JD. Trust me on this. Contact Shed Pickups. He will make you the pickup you desire.
It is said and I know of high end Luthiers using his pickups in preference to BareKnuckle.
What does that tell you?

i was in this position right before i bought my 20th with another company... and i was looking at all the high end stuff and found a builder failrly local and i was able to work with him to achieve the sound i was looking for... so if a builder is willing to work with you to get your specs... thats the best...
now all that being said i've not touched the guitar since i bought a EBMM and don't plan on touching it ever again either... thats why i dropped it off at my parents house to be abused by guests... LOl
