Humbucker Pick up adjustments

First post here- hello all!!!

Ok, I just got my first EB SS- what an incredible guitar! This is the guitar I should have been playing years ago.

My question is this- can I adjust my pups closer to the stings on the double HB model? I messed around with the philips screws on the sides, but they didn't raise/lower the pups they only made them loose.
Are the pups not adjustable?

I think you have to use shims...

Welcome....The pickups on a SSPT are mounted to the body, so if you want to raise the p/ups you will need to shim them.

Are there official MM shims, or do I come up with my own?

Also, how close is too close to the strings? I know I can't have them right up there, but is there a max tolerance before they start messing with the sustain, etc?
