1.) I enjoy the EB Hybrid Slinky strings (2222 / .009 - .046) on my Ibanez JPM. It took a little bit of setup time with the bridge and springs, but they work well and I love the feel.

I know that the EBMM JP6 from the factory has RPS-10 Slinkys (10-46). How much work will it take to setup my JP6 to use the Hybrid Slinkys? Is it difficult? I just received my JP6 yesterday, so I haven't taken it apart and looked at its inner workings yet. :D

2.) I have a John Connolly Epiphone Les Paul that is designed for heavy strings. The guitar has a brass nut with wide string channel guides. I tune this guitar down to C and use D'Addario EJ22s on it (.013, .017, .026, .036, .046, .056) :p . I was considering replacing this Epiphone with a plain jane JP6, but I'm concerned about the compatibility between the heavier strings and the stock, unmodified nut on the JP6. What's everyone else doing? Anyone know what JP did with his EBMMs during ToT?

3.) And to tie in with the above question; I know this is the guitar section of the site, but any chance of getting the EB "Jazz" sets RPS-ified? :D I'm guessing they haven't been added to the RPS line due to the wound G string.

4.) RPS 7 string sets?

A set 10s are hard to beat, plus if jp plays 10s the pickups are more than likely voiced for 10s. I would talk to someone at mm factory and see what they have to say! Good luck and let us know how it turns out for you!

I've played 9's on my Ibanez guitars for years... got my JP6 and thought it played awesome. I figured it had come with 9's because of how smoothly it played. Comes time for string change. I buy the same EB HS's, same as always. Right off the bat I realize it originally had 10's due to the fact the trem angle wasn't adding up. Thinking, if it played that nice with 10's it going to be unreal with 9's.... Not so much. I didn't like them at all. For whatever reason the JP6 and BFR's seem to be built for 10's. I played the 9's for a couple of days and never got used to them. Bought 10's and put those on... readjusted the trem and what not... played like a dream.

It's all going to boil down to preference. Your choice isn't going to matter much as long as the guitar is set up right. If you like the way Hybrid Slinkys feel, then use them. If you like 10's then use them.

I think I'm going to pick up some RPS Hybrids and keep them on standby for when my RPS 10s wear out.

Anyone have input on the heavier gauge strings (.013, .017, .026, .036, .046, .056) if I were to purchase another JP6?

Same as I said before. As long as it's set up right, you're good to go. For strings that thick, though, you might want to see a luthier about getting the nut slots widened a bit.
