I had a busy day yesterday. I got up and went to church. After church, I did an interview with Quick. They featured me on this week's podcast (QuickDFW.com - Dallas/Fort Worth - Click It, Read It, Go!). After the interview, I went over to the Granada Theater. There, I sat in with Bugs Henderson. I also got to hang and hear Andy Timmons. That was a good time. After that, I headed over to the Nokia Theater. When I got there, Etta James was doing Johnny "guitar" Watson's "I Wanna Ta Ta You." It was a fun show. She was hilarious...I was rolling! I have never seen a woman in her 70s do the booty roll...The funny thing is that her grandchildren are in the band...poor guys...it was great. After Etta, Al Green came on. He is the real deal. His show was dead on. He was listening to every note, to make sure no one was messing up. He sang some mean gospel too. It was one of the most uplifting/inspiring show I have ever seen.
At Eric Clapton's Crossroads festival this year, Albert Lee asked if I wanted to go back and meet Clapton. I would not say no to this...We hopped in the van that was supposed to take us backstage...well, the driver took off to the wrong place. By the time we finally got back there, I ran up on the side of the stage and caught the last 45 seconds of B.B...I was devastated. Last night when B.B. came on, I couldn't hold back my excitement. I couldn't stop smiling or laughing! B.B. sang and played with so much soul and feel. It really was touching. After the show, B.B.'s tour manager let me go talk with B.B. on the bus for a while. He was the nicest guy. When I walked in, he said "You're a guitar player. I can tell." I sat down and we talked for a while. When I handed him a copy of my cd, he handed it back to me and asked me to write a message to him. So I did. After I gave him the cd back, he took my hand and said, "You get high on your music. Stay away from drugs. A woman every now and then is ok, but no drugs. Promise?" Is that not amazing or what? The whole experience was just amazing. I can't even begin to explain the respect I have towards B.B. King.
After the show I drove home so I could go to school the next morning. I got home around 4:00 AM. School started today at 8:00AM...what a drag... it's ok though...Why? Because last night, I met my hero. It was by far one of the most amazing experiences I have ever had!
Here are a few more photos...We were recently filmed for a documentary called "Rock Prophecies." It's a documentary on the life of rock photographer Robert Knight. The film will feature artists such as Jeff Beck, Carlos Santana, ZZ Top, Buddy Guy, Hubert Sumlin, Jonny Lang, etc. It's funny to me how the crew went from filming Jeff Beck in his London castle to filming me in Honey Grove, TX. haha...Anyways, they filmed us live at a club in Paris, TX. They also filmed a lot of other stuff, but you will just have to wait. It was great. The fire Marshal came and said we were way over capacity. Around 100 people got turned away. First come first serve. Anyways, here a few photos from the whole filming process. Enjoy.
