I love my Morse; although, sometimes I think I would have been better suited to a Silo Special due to the single coil in the neck and the switching (I know, you told me BP...); but I digress.....

I am in the process of making my Morse a Seymour Duncan-powered axe. I have stated by replacing the slanted single coil with an APS-1. I reversed the leads because I know Duncan and DiMarzio are opposite of each other. I also replaced the 500k pots I have installed with 250k. That's what I'm going to run with the JB/Jazz combo and the Twang Banger that's going to replace the straight single coil.

Well, I started off okay; with the pots and the Duncan pickup. Then I wired everything up and put the strings on then went to bed. The Morse ain't no Tele. I can wire those in my sleep. The Morse takes a lot out of me. There's just sooooooo much under the hood of that guitar. Well, I plugged it in and I got nothin'......

Pisses me off because then, I have to remove the strings and start over. It's maddening but that's okay. I do what I gotta do. I had rehearsal that night and couldn't not get it working. First it was, I believe bad pots (I dug into my stash of them). I replaced the pots. Still nothing. Well, I moved the wiring harness on my Air Zone (bridge pickup). It was crackling. Somehow, in my (who knows how many) pickup changes, I have manged to knock a wire loose. I found the problem and repaired it. I thought I had it made. Nope.....

I could strike a chord and the sound would be strong one moment and fade away the next. Well, Pete DuBaldo is sending me a new blue swirl pickguard. I think I will take the parts off and start over nice and clean with the new pickguard.

I'm not looking for a fix here; just wanted to vent; unless someone has an epiffany....

**NOTE** - This is not a shot at EBMM. The guitar worked great before I messed with it. Just to clarify, the reason it's having trouble is my own fault....

Cheers,

Heh, yeah there's a lot under the hood there. Mine is made worse with the piezo and Silent Circuit, it's pretty crowded under there. Does sound like you have a bad solder joint or loose wire, though.

One thing you can do it make sure it all works before you put your strings on. Tap on all the p'ups with a small metal screwdriver and make sure the p'ups and switches function correctly and that the volume/tone works. That usually catches any problems before I put the p/g guard back on. For a tone check, you can hold another guitar upside down above the Morse p/g and strum (or the opposite, hold the Morse p/g near another guitar). You'll be able to hear if the sound is right and catch things like out of phase wiring or a coil short. Get everything right before you screw the guard back in and put strings on.

Good luck man. It gets easier each time.

You are right. My past threads prove that. But, I sold my bridge pickup to Beej. The pickups just aren't for me. So I can't take it back to stock and sell it. Best I could do would be to get it working and sell it.

That said, I gotta stick with this guitar because the fit and finish are unparalleled in my book; plus Pete DuBaldo has a really cool blue swirl pickguard he's sending me. I will see this guitar though....

But would you miss it? Sounds like you just might.

Unplug for a half hour, and noodle around. Does it feel right?

If you slapped this glitch into shape and the thing started to roar back at you the way you had expected, I reckon you'll hug it throughout the night.

On a side note, after trying my first Silhouette yesterday, I say still buy a Silhouette anyway.

I'm not really helping now, am I..............

You have me very curious as to what the mod is..... I look at the Morse and think "that thing has....like....23 pickups....". Do you put another pickup in the neck? No...not the neck location....in the neck itself?

I dopnt know what TOmmy speaks of...but he knows his stuff.....

THis is a perfect example of keeping the nos stuf when you experiment....it happens all the time on the bass side...somebody puts somebody elses pickup in it knows that there is a market for a reall music man pickup...actualy a premium...decide that they blew it and then they are stuck....

Oh, without a doubt - I would. The fact that it has the most comfortable neck and no contours; like a Tele...

Beej, I did make a deal with you but if you are willing, I will PayPal your money back to you. Let's take this offline and chat about it. Reneging is not in my nature....

Guys, I sure appreciate the replies you have given; thanks...:)
