Hi all, this is my first post.

Recently bought a mint condition Luke off a friend but managed to get a small chip in the bodywork whilst gigging the other night. I was wondering if anyone can recommend any good repairers in the UK (I'm in Hampshire). I asked my local luthier and he said he could touch it up but aesthetic repairs weren't really his speciality. I realise that chip repair is a complicated and costly process but I'm fairly desperate as I want to get the wood covered again.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Frankly, I'd learn to live with it, think of it as a bit of character! A repair will never look totally the same...although saying that some guy just took a scratch out of my car and you'd never know I had scraped it on a garage door but guitars are different beasties!

Guitarwise, these guys are amazing but not sure if they do small repairs. Maybe you could get it refinned in something unique, check out the gallery! They also did our own Jamie Humphries' mirrored Axis...

Hi and welcome to the forum.
A fellow forumite by the name of Tim O'Sullivan had some fantastic guitar cosmetic work done in Chandlers.
Home - Charlie Chandler's Guitar Experience

If the ding is not in too much of a prominent position you can get it touched in with a colour very close to the original.

I repaired a battered Mystic Dream JP and used black paint (cos you cant get MD paint as a touch up)to fill dings and dents and it looks great.

Thanks for your help guys.

Somehow the idea of relicing Musicman guitars doesn't feel quite right. I'll leave that to strats, teles and any guitar owned by Charlie from Busted (although in his case, I think they should be reliced by force and to such a stage as to render them unplayable).

Don't fret over these types of things. Honestly, if you are gigging the guitar you will get more scratches, the finish will wear and the guitar will develop its own character. Let it be is my opinion.

Yeah, i freaked out each time i put a dent or nick into my first JP6 ( I am still puzzled how a small indentation wound up on the fret board, but I think a friend is responsible for that) but it's still the best guitar in the world to play and look at even with the nicks.

Relicing! Yeah, it amazes me that people pay a lot extra for a factory reliced guitar and yet want big discounts from private sellers for a near mint guitar with one or two naturally gained dings!!!

People pay big cash for Trussart guitars which are buried underground for weeks to develop the rust!!!!:rolleyes:

If it were me, I'd just let it be. BUT, that's just me. YOU are not ME - if it troubles YOU - get it fixed and don't care what anyone else thinks.

I've always been of the opinion that instruments are tools. And while they need to be taken care of, they are going to show signs of wear and normal use. But like I said - do what makes YOU comfortable.

Can't help you with a fixer - but I would trust Spud's judgement any day.

Hi welcome to the forum
If you can't live with it get it fixed , I know over the years I have been pretty rough with my guitars and alot of them are beat up , i have a strat and a les paul that are really beat. As for my Y2D I havent had it long enough so it stills looks good but give a few more years it will look like my other ones.
The scratches and dings never really bothered me to much, but I know some like their guitars to look good.
Good Luck with the guitar and hopefully you will find someone good to fix it.

ok - as promised

Here's the guitar in question and as regulars on here may remember, it had been resprayed white.

It's difficult to see but at 3 o clock is a repair using black paint. The strap button was so loose that it had worn the paint down to the wood

This one was repaired in a similar fashion - believe me it really is hardly noticeable when it's hanging on yer neck being played
