So i was out looking around enjoying the 80 degree weather here in Pittsburgh today and wandered into a guitar center. I was kind of surprised to find a set of cobalts on the shelf just waiting to be purchased. So now i have a set of 45-100 Cobalt slinkys, and a difficult decision to make... Which Bass Gets the Strings?

The DDII Big AL SSS?
The Black Magic SLO H Special?
The Aqua Purple Big Al H? This one usually wears flats.
The Copperhead Sterling?
Or the Gilded WHite Classic?

I could put them on any of the other basses, but other than the Gilded white, these are the ones with the oldest strings.

Suggestions?

I'm leaning toward the DDII..

Whatever it is will be happening tomorrow.

All the Best, All the Time.

I was thinking the Guilded White also but it has new strings on it already unless you want to move those to another bass.

Just had rehearsal with the berts using the dargie 2 with neons. I wanted a good A. After rehearsal I promptly took off the neons and strung her up with cobalts. I'll try it out tomorrow. Though I won't get a true B until the next band rehearsal. I can tell you the dargie looks much classier without bright orange strings on.

The triple S might be the best idea. The Cobalts make the p/u config changes and tone adjustments more noticeable so the more variations your bass has the more tone range you'll get.

So first run with the cobalts went okay. They have more zing than I am used to. But I have been using coated strings or flat wounds almost exclusively for the last few years. I'll know more after rehearsal with the band. But so far I haven't noticed them being wildly different. They sound good, and I'm not sure what I was expecting, but I'm not ready to switch all of my basses yet.
