Cuz I just ordered me a Bongo. 4 banger, HS, rolls burgundy. Should get it by the end of next week. Excited to get back into playing. Need to stop by my LMS to pick up a practice amp. Then on to forming calluses. Whu-hoo!

Way to go, Mad Dog!

I have some extra pickguards for a 4 banger HS config, I think, should you not be pleased with what you get. They're just sitting around, doing nothing.

We can barter if you're interested.

Or we won't if you're not. Either way is good, they don't take up much space.

We do expect photos!

I followed the Nike suggestion

I just did it. Played a HH at my LMS and loved the sound. The neck pickup got in the way for any slap so I figured the HS might be a good compromise. Then again, it might not. After not playing for 10yrs, I don't think I'll be disappointed either way.

Thanks for the offer Bovine. Not sure too many colors will go well with the burgundy. Got a solid white one?

Will definitely get some pictures up when I can. Not willing to do soundclips unless you guys are willing to put up with "Mary had a little lamb".

Well, I can't be certain, but it looks to me that the single coil isn't any farther from teh neck than the humbucker--I won't be able to confirm until my fretless arrives. So, unless you slap behind the neck pickup, I think you'll just have to adapt. A little time with it, and you'll wonder why it ever bothered you.

Maybe Bov will pipe up and give us the deets.

I think you'll love the HS config as much as I do mine. Tons of tone variations available. I found that since the pups are so hot it helped to lower them significantly. Gives you more room to slap and also keeps the strings away from the pole pieces when you damp with the palm of your right hand. Pics upon arrival please. :D

Homey don't slap.

Thus it is that the dual buckers and bucker-single coil work equally well for old Caveman Fingerstyle Lord Bovine of the Old School Bass Approach.

I like my H-SC a LOT. Plus it's Carbon Blue Pearl and people, that's a sexy color.

I like Bongos. I like Bongos a LOT.

Perhaps you've noticed.

Slappin'

The place where I ran into problems slappin' was pulling up with the index finger. Kept hitting the side of the neck pu away from the neck. Figured the SC would give a little more space between the pickups.

And I'm also going to play around with some Funk Fingers when I get some made. Beyond the 15 minutes of noodling at the LMS I can't wait to see what kind of tones this thing generates.
