Tomorrow I bid goodbye to my Dargie Bongo 4HP. A few days afterward my 07LE SR4 will fly 3,000+ miles across the country.

My ship is deploying in January but I cannot be there because of some training I have to do @ the Navy base in Newport, RI. The Navy will fly me out to catch the ship wherever it maybe after I finish my training in March. Tomorrow I will bring all my stuff to the ship including my beloved Dargie and a Markbass combo so I can travel light when I catch them sometime in March.

I am shipping the SR4 to Newport for me to receive when I get there on Jan 5 :) It will stay there with me throughout my training after which I will ship it back home to myself again.

I hope my babies make it through okay.:)

Wow, you must be in the ship's band or must be the Commander! If not, I'm amazed they let you take a bass and an amp on board. I thought things were pretty cramped on navy vessels on active duty?

Good luck my friend and be safe. If you want, shoot me an e-mail with your ship address and I will make sure you are taken care of in the way of "Care Packages" and what not. I was there once and know what you are going through. It is always nice to get something in the mail....strings, cookies, goodies, and a good old fashion rum cake! ;)

Aussie....the ships can be a little cramped. But, there is always space in shops and what not to have instruments. Some ships provide them so the sailors can entertain themselves with a band and what not. Carriers have a full blown out gym, band instruments, and all kinds of fun things to do. However, being out at sea can get boring, so those fun things can get monotonous.

Well the Dargie is now on the ship.

Thanks for wishing me well guys. It is an honor to serve this fine country and its citizens. Koogs, appreciate the offer bro, please make sure to put extra rum in the rum cake ;)

Aussie, Koogs is right on, the ship is cramped but there are many nooks and crannies (we call em cubby holes) where stuff can be kept. I myself have several holds that my sailors control under lock and key so it makes it easy for me to store things

On another note, I heard that we may be going to Thailand. Compared to Thai ports, Sodom, Gomorrah and Babylon are about as sleazy as Disneyland. :)

Good luck, and thanks for the education. For some reason I imagined all those nooks and crannies were stashed full of cannon balls, rum barrels and salted pork. Times have changed. I'll make a note to check out one of your navy vessels next time one is in Sydney for an R&R visit.
