He was looking to replace his Yamaha and was considering an Alembic. We went out and did some bass shopping and he ended up buying a 5 string Bongo. It was amazing the difference in tone between the Bongo and the other stuff he was looking at. Bongos are awesome!

Same thing happened to me, except my bass player wasn't looking to replace any basses.. and he didn't have any Yamahas he had F@nders, and he didn't get a Bongo but a lefty SR4. :D

But the tone difference is amazing, and Bongos are still awesome!

My brother has a fretless Alembic. It is a really nice bass. But, I think $ for $ a Stingray or Bongo is a much better deal.

He played it at rehearsal last night and I honestly could not believe the difference. It was as dramatic as listening to an old transistor radio and suddenly hearing the same station on a stereo. The on board eq has to be heard to fully understand what a difference it makes. I think it actually makes him play better as well. His chops are certianly more expressive now.

Our bassist lost his job recently, so I guess he will be sticking with his Peavey for a while. To be honest, he has way more issues with his amp than his bass.

This is so heartwarming.

I wish I could get my guitar player(s) to switch!

(They're just cheap. They KNOW how good the guitars are.)

Aren't Alembics, like, $6000+????

My friend's obsessed with them. For that dough, you could get a few Bongos! :)

He was dead set on getting an Alembic, and I'd have to say, of any musician I've ever played with he would notice the most subtle differences in an instrument and tone. I talked him into playing a Bongo, even though he was doing it just to shut me up. He told me multiple times that a Bongo could never sound and play as well as an Alembic.

After about 30 minutes of playing the Bongo, he looked at me with this look of astonishment and said "There is no way any other bass could play any better or sound any better than this thing!". He then asked me to see if the guy at the store could go get the case so he could buy it. I haven't heard him even mention an Alembic since.
