The band im producing at the moment have all been converted to EBMM by yours truly and the guitarist gave me his Silo special to take home and give some love to?
at first i really didnt like the neck i.e No birds eye and feels like a thick JP ?
Now ive played it for the last couple of nights and id have to say its starting to really grow on me .
so my dilemma is should i give it back ?
Q. why is there no birds eye ?
Q. are all silo necks Fat ?
cheers
D:confused:

EB does not use birdseye on Silos, Silo Specials, I never noticed my Silo Special neck to be fat...

I'm confused. Neither Silo nor JP necks are fat.

Bird's eye is a matter of luck of the draw. Some have 'em, some don't. Not everyone cares for birds eye.

I thought they stopped using it recently and went to plain maple. I could be wrong

Guys- figuring in the necks (flame or birdseye) is luck of the draw. Always has been. (Unless you're an endorsed artist).

As for "fat" ... all silo necks have the profile that you're playing. There are, of course, subtle differences from guitar to guitar. If you find that neck too big there are plenty of MMs with smaller profiles.

My old silo special didn't have any bird's eye.Loved the neck too,and afaik wood boffin's will tell you straight grained wood with no knot's/birdseye is superior.
My Luke has plenty of bird's eye tho and I couldn't give a damn if it has wood worm lol

there are some really radically figured silos from the old days. Birds eye is crazt scarce and we save it for the sig guitars.

As far as the silo being thick it is actally the JP is extrodiarily thin

the silo special neck would feel miles fatter than a JP, personally ive found the rosewood fretboard Silo's to feel slightly fatter than the maple board ones. which is fine for me!

Ive seen Silo Specials with heaps of birdseye, but not since the early 2000's.

2000's.

Mine feel just the opposite, which is also fine with me. They're both comfy critters.

I remember seeing one way way way back in another local dealer which was black, pearl pickguard, and SICK bird's eye maple neck... I should've bought it then, but I was still in school back then, and had no $$$... :(
