Well, I know I'm not exactly a forum regular here (though I lurk ALL the time) but I thought I would share. Please bare with my long, rambling story... I think it's worth it.
I was in a fairly successful Christian band for about 7 years. Traveled, played some big (3kish) shows, had multiple gigs every weekend, ect. I left the band last January, and save playing some at my church, I have not played out since last January. In the interim, I sold my Stingray (with my wife agreeing I could buy another after she graduated) and kept only my Bongo. I have been playing around with some friends and we hope to get a band rolling soon, but it never seems to get off the ground. Anyway, I honestly thought I was mostly done with music other than the occasional worship set at church, or jamming at home.
Then I got a phone call from my good friend and former guitarist. A guy our band played with wanted me, him, and a drummer to be his live band. I said sure...
I had 10 days to learn 5 songs... that were metal. I don't play metal. Never have. And did I mention he is a rap artist? Yea, just imagine a metal RATM. Anyway, I said sure... let's do it.
The first show? 2500 people in Arlington Texas. First practice was at sound check that day. We killed it. It was awesome. Played that night and people were RUSHING the merch booth afterwards. The guy we played for loved it so much, he asked us if we wanted to do a few more shows. Sure we say.
He says the next show is in Knoxville. 22 THOUSAND people. We jumped at the chance. Anyway, it was this past weekend. Simply AMAZING. Some of Christian musics biggest artists were there. And us. Me sporting my Bongo.
We played, and once again KILLED it. The Bongo got a LOT of praise. Several other bass players commented on it. The sound guy on the main board said it was the best sounding bass all weekend (it was the only EBMM bass there, and all basses were DI before the amps) even over the big name guys boutique basses. (I string BEAD, and have flats, just for info sake)
Anyway, long story short, the Bongo got some attention, turned heads, and was, as are all EBMM basses, the best there are. Thanks guys for making such quality instruments that can stand toe to toe with anyone on ANY stage and kick tail.
We have a few more Big (2-5k) shows, and several small shows booked with him now. Should be a fun couple of months
Anyway, a few pics of this weekend, and a video of the crowd. Thanks for reading my ridiculously long story!
