GWDavis,

Actually I'm 6.5 hours away in Pittsburgh. :( Otherwise, I'd be happy to hang out with a fellow forumite.

tommyindelaware is probably closer!

But I do get to Philly once or twice a year. Go to Jim's on South Street for a cheesesteak.

Or, D'Allessandro's.. but I can't remember which part of the City that was..

Dallesandro's is on Henry Ave. in Germantown. I went to high school right up the street. That and Fiesta Steaks, which is a block away, are both good choices. I'll actually be in Philly this weekend visiting my parents, and my wife and I will definitely make it to Dalessandro's or Fiesta while we're there. Dalessandro's is closed on Sundays.

And Bovine, +1 on the Philly Connection. When I was in Atlanta it was the closest approximation of a real cheese steak I could find when I had the craving.

Former Philadelphian here. Born & raised. Lived there for about 30 years, up until 1992. So, here's the basic local rule:

You only go to Pat's, Geno's, or Jim's if

1) you are a tourist
2) it's 3 a.m. and you are drunk

The best places for cheesesteaks are usually these little, out of the way places that people have been recommending. My favorite cheesesteak place (and favorite hoagie place) was the Italian Kitchen at C & the Boulevard, but it's probably closed down.

If you are in Villanova, there used to be a place on Lancaster Avenue named Goombah's. But I'm not sure if they are still in business either.

I'm a lot of help, aren't I? :)

Some guys from the sports radio station I listen to down here were up in Philly for the Cowboys/Eagles game on Monday. While they were there they got there recomendation of Pat's vs Geno's and they went with Pat's. They said it was cold an flavorless and it sent all of them to the bathroom within 2 hours. I think I'll go to Genos...

Were they wearing Cowboy attire?

Me neither. Someone told me it was so.

That's my story and where'd this handbasket come from?

Haha.. thanks Jack & Ben.

The best thing about the cheesteak place in Sky Harbor was indeed the company.
The service was.. well, there really wasn't any.. was there?

The lady accompanying me was indeed my wife, AngelaB.. and if all is right in the world, she'll be Dr. AngelaB on the 30th of this month when she defends her dissertation. (doctorate in education.. she's a school psychologist)

Now, won't THAT make her even hotter? :D
