I'm not in the market for anything, but I'm in the habit of visiting the local GC (or other music store) when it's convenient during my travels.

A few days ago I was in the vicinity of the Larchmont, NY GC with about a half-hour to spare, so of course I dropped in.

They have a 30th SR on the wall. I knew they had it, but didn't know if it had sold or not. Seeing that it's still there, I felt it needed a visit.

So I took it down and found that it was buzzing all over the neck.

Employing my Official Forumite Trussrod Tweak Privelege, I pulled the appropriate implement out of my pocket, gave the trussrod an adjustment, and proceeded to enjoy myself for 15 minutes or so.

Then, as I was preparing to put it back on its hook, I did what I always do...hold it up and admire it from all angles. Man, the birdseye on those 30th necks is amazing.

It was then that I saw it had a pinky-fingernail-sized ding in the back of the body, all the way down to the bare wood.

*sob*

I've got similar damage to my own bass, but *I* did it, not some purple-haired emo teen creep. There's a difference. Scars should have a story behind them.

good on ya for giving the bass a quick setup. and like has been said a bunch before... GC's policy of letting people play anything can cause stuff like that neck gash from time to time... but A) people get to try the instrument instead of facing "DONT TOUCH" sign and B) someone's gonna get a great deal when they point out the boo boo to the manager or helpful sales dude/dudette

Hey I was just at that GC 2 days ago. I was very upset to see that the HH Bongo 4 that made me want to buy a Bongo was no longer there. I didnt play any of the MMs they had there cause there was some dude slapping his thumb off on a f*nder jazz bass in front of them all, I just needed to pick up an xlr cable anyway. If you haven't been there I suggest going down palmer ave. to Walters Hot Dogs. The curly fries are great. :D

Just one question, Sherlock; how could you tell the ding came from someone with purple hair?...:D
I am afraid that is the big trade off with GC, everybody handles everything without supervision. But where would we try out gear otherwise? I don't buy guitars or basses to put under glass for 20 years to watch them appreciate. If I can't play it and show it off, what good is it? If it has a ding on the back that no one knows is there when I'm playing, then I would get a HUGE discount for the axe and use it all the time! IMHO, of course.
